Leroy Gómez is an American singer-songwriter, best known for his work with 1970s disco and latin music act Santa Esmeralda. Biography Birth and early life Leroy Gómez was born July 8, 1950, in Wareham, Massachusetts, of Cape Verdean descent. Career as saxophonist and in the Tavares ''See Tavares'' After learning how to sing and play the saxophone, Gómez started his own band at 14, and later joined Tavares, a local group of brothers who shared his Cape Verdean heritage, and with whom he would go on to tour in North America and Europe. Work with Elton John in Paris In Paris, Elton John invited him to play the sax on Social Disease, a song on his 1973 classic album ''Goodbye Yellow Brick Road''. Amidst this success, Gómez decided to leave his band "Tavares" and remain in Europe, getting work as a session player in Paris. Wareham ( ) is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town had a population of 23,303. History Wareham was first settled in 1678 by Europeans as part of the towns of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Plymouth and Rochester, Massachusetts, Rochester. It was officially incorporated in 1739 and named after the town of Wareham, Dorset, Wareham in England. Because of its geography, Wareham's early industry revolved around shipbuilding and the related industries. It also served as a resort town, with many smaller resorts scattered around the town, especially in Onset.
