Leptospermum Nitidum
''Leptospermum nitidum'', commonly known as shiny tea-tree, is a species of compact shrub that is endemic to Tasmania. It has crowded, aromatic, elliptical leaves, white flowers about in diameter and fruit that remain on the plants until it is burned or dies. Description ''Leptospermum nitudum'' is a densely foliaged, compact shrub that typically grows to a height of and has scaly bark. The leaves are aromatic, mostly glabrous, elliptical, long, wide and glossy, usually with a sharp point on the tip and tapering at the base to a short petiole. The flowers are white, about wide and arranged on the ends of leafy side branches. There are golden brown bracts and bracteoles at the base of the flower buds but that usually fall off before the flower opens. The floral cup is long with triangular sepals mostly long. Maranoa Gardens
Maranoa Gardens began in the early 1890s, when Mr John Middleton Watson purchased 1.4 hectares in Balwyn, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, for a private garden. He planted many Australian and New Zealand native trees and shrubs and the area was maintained purely as a garden. He named the gardens Maranoa after a river in Queensland, from native words meaning flowing, alive or running. The former City of Camberwell (since merged into the City of Boroondara) acquired the area in 1922 and continued the planting, gradually removing all non-native plants. In September 1926, Maranoa Gardens were formally opened to the public and Mr F Chapman was appointed Chairman of the Gardens' Consulting Committee. Mr Chapman's keen interest in the Gardens and that of many others helped to establish Maranoa Gardens as one of the largest displays of Australian plants in Victoria. ''Leptospermum'' is a genus of shrubs and small trees in the myrtle family Myrtaceae commonly known as tea trees, although this name is sometimes also used for some species of ''Melaleuca''. Most species are endemic to Australia, with the greatest diversity in the south of the continent, but some are native to other parts of the world, including New Zealand and Southeast Asia. Ronald Campbell Gunn, FRS, (4 April 1808 – 13 March 1881) was a South African-born Australian botanist and politician. Early life Gunn was born at Cape Town, Cape Colony, (now South Africa), the son of William Gunn, lieutenant in the British Army's 72nd Regiment, and his wife Margaret, ''née'' Wilson.
