Leonidas Veliaroutis
Leonidas D. Veliaroutis ( el, Λεωνίδας Δ. Βελιαρούτης) (23 November 1916 – 17 March 2020) was a Greek writer. He was born in Grammeno, Zitsa. He turned 100 in November 2016 and died in March 2020 at the age of 103. Zitsa ( el, Ζίτσα) is a village and a municipality in the Ioannina regional unit, Epirus, Greece. The seat of the municipality is the village Eleousa. The municipality has an area of 565.566 km2, the municipal unit 65.868 km2, the community 29.169 km2. Centenarian
A centenarian is a person who has reached the age of 100 years. Because life expectancies worldwide are below 100 years, the term is invariably associated with longevity. In 2012, the United Nations estimated that there were 316,600 living centenarians worldwide. As world population and life expectancy continue to increase, the number of centenarians is expected to increase substantially in the 21st century. According to the UK ONS, one-third of babies born in 2013 in the UK are expected to live to 100. The United Nations predicts that there are 573,000 centenarians currently, almost quadruple the 151,000 suggested in the year 2000. Maria Lampadaridou-Pothou
Maria Lampadaridou-Pothou (; 15 October 1933 – 17 June 2023) was a Greek novelist, poet and playwright. She received awards and recognition from the Academy of Athens and other literary societies. Biography Early years Lampadaridou-Pothou was born in Myrina, Lemnos. From an early age, she developed an interest in literature. When she finished her elementary studies in Lemnos, she was appointed a clerk to the Provincial court of the island by written exams. In 1959 she published her first poetry collection, ''Encounters.'' Odysseus Elytis sent her a letter with his own positive review of the book, calling her a “fellow poet”. While she worked, she took exams at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in order to complete a degree by distance learning. In 1963 she received her degree and settled in Athens permanently. Two years later she was granted a fellowship from the French Government to study Theatre at the Sorbonne University, Paris.
