Leonid Kruglyak
Leonid Kruglyak is a scientist focusing on evolutionary genetics. He is the Chair of the Department of Human Genetics, a Distinguished Professor in the Departments of Human Genetics and Biological Chemistry and was appointed in 2020 The Diller-von Furstenberg Endowed Chair in Human Genetics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles. Kruglyak received a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a masters and doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley in physics. After working as faculty at the Whitehead Institute and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, he returned to Princeton as a professor of ecology and evolutionary biology in 2005. He has been an HHMI investigator since 2008. Genetics
Genetics is the study of genes, genetic variation, and heredity in organisms.Hartl D, Jones E (2005) It is an important branch in biology because heredity is vital to organisms' evolution. Gregor Mendel, a Moravian Augustinian friar working in the 19th century in Brno, was the first to study genetics scientifically. Mendel studied "trait inheritance", patterns in the way traits are handed down from parents to offspring over time. He observed that organisms (pea plants) inherit traits by way of discrete "units of inheritance". This term, still used today, is a somewhat ambiguous definition of what is referred to as a gene. Trait inheritance and molecular inheritance mechanisms of genes are still primary principles of genetics in the 21st century, but modern genetics has expanded to study the function and behavior of genes. Fellows Of The American Association For The Advancement Of Science
Fellowship of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (FAAAS) is an honor accorded by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) to distinguished persons who are members of the Association. Fellows are elected annually by the AAAS Council for "efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications hichare scientifically or socially distinguished".
