Leonard Levinson
Leonard Louis Levinson (March 2, 1904 - January 30, 1974) was an American radio writer and author. Early years Levinson was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Naimon and Sophie Levinson. He had two brothers, Stanley and Robert M. Levinson. While a student at Fifth Avenue High School in Pittsburgh, he was a star in baseball, ice hockey, and track, accumulating 13 sports letters. He also was president of the literary and debate organizations and business manager of the school publication. After high school, he studied radio engineering at Carnegie Tech and followed that with a study of drama at the University of Pittsburgh. He later attended the University of California at Los Angeles and worked at a newspaper while he was enrolled there . ''The Jack Carson Show'' is an American old-time radio comedy-variety program. It was broadcast on different seasons on CBS and NBC, beginning on June 2, 1943, and ending on December 20, 1956. María Guadalupe Villalobos Vélez (July 18, 1908 – December 13, 1944), known professionally as Lupe Vélez, was a Mexican actress, singer and dancer during the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema. Vélez began her career as a performer in Mexican vaudeville in the early 1920s. After moving to the United States, she made her first film appearance in a short in 1927. ''Hollywood Showcase'' is the title of two American old-time radio talent shows, both of which were broadcast on CBS in the 1930s and 1940s. During some intervals, the program was carried only on CBS's west-coast stations. 1937-1944 version ''Hollywood Showcase'' debuted on July 24, 1937, and was broadcast at a variety of times and with some interruptions until 1944. Each episode featured "talented but little recognized professional, semi-professional and amateur artists" with winners selected by members of the studio audience. The winning act was rewarded with a week's engagement at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. Fifth Avenue High School is a defunct school located at 1800 Fifth Avenue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's Bluff neighborhood, United States. Built in 1894 as a large Romanesque/Gothic Revival building, it served the Pittsburgh Public Schools until its closure in 1976. For over thirty years, the building sat empty, boarded up, and fenced off until it was eventually converted into other uses. Fifth Avenue was the first fireproof school in Pennsylvania and was home to the Alpha chapter of the National Honor Society. Its colors were red and white, and the mascot was the Archer, so chosen because of the school's architecture and hallways filled with Gothic and Victorian arches lined with red and white tile.
