Leon Davis Jr.
Leon Davis Jr. (born December 14, 1977) is an American spree killer and arsonist who committed two double homicides within a week in Polk County, Florida, in December 2007. He was Capital punishment in Florida, sentenced to death in two separate trials and is currently awaiting execution at Union Correctional Institution. Early life Davis was born on December 14, 1977, in Lake Wales, Florida. Early friends of Davis described him as someone funny, enjoyed four-wheeling, and was an avid listener of country music. Davis was also regarded as a good athlete due to him being 6 foot 5 and a high school basketball player. Despite this, Davis often got into fights, which led to police detaining him, though Davis did not get charged with any crime. In 2002, Davis and his girlfriend were arrested for shoplifting about $50 of products out of Walmart. In July 2006, Davis purchased a home that left him over $196,000 in debt. Lake Wales is a city in Polk County, Florida. The population was 14,225 at the 2010 census. , the population estimated by the U.S. Census Bureau is 16,759. It is part of the Lakeland– Winter Haven Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lake Wales is located in central Florida, west of Lake Kissimmee and east of Tampa. History The land around the present city was surveyed in 1879 by Sidney Irving Wailes, who changed the name of a lake, then known as Watts Lake, to Lake Wailes. The city of Lake Wales was established near the lake in 1911–1912, planned by the Lake Wales Land Company. The spelling Wales was used for the city, although the lake is still generally spelled Lake Wailes. Allen Carleton Nydegger, a Civil Engineer, was contracted by the Lake Wales Land Company to plot out the community of Lake Wales.
