Leon County Schools (LCS) is a school district headquartered in the LCS Admin Complex in Tallahassee, Florida, United States. It is the sole school district of Leon County. History Prior to November 2004 the school district allowed parents to have their children moved to schools in proximity to where their parents worked. Troy
Troy ( el, Τροία and Latin: Troia, Hittite: 𒋫𒊒𒄿𒊭 ''Truwiša'') or Ilion ( el, Ίλιον and Latin: Ilium, Hittite: 𒃾𒇻𒊭 ''Wiluša'') was an ancient city located at Hisarlik in present-day Turkey, south-west of Çanakkale and about miles east of the Aegean Sea. Concord School (Miccosukee)
Concord School was a school for African-American children built in 1894 in the hamlet of Miccosukee, in eastern Leon County, Florida. History The earliest mention of Concord School was in the minutes of a school board meeting from 1878. It was mentioned that the teacher's salary was $20.00 per month. Schooling most likely began in the Miccosukee A.M.E. Church. In 1893, two Miccosukee women, Fayette and Jennie Burned sold a half-acre of their land for $1.00 with the stipulation that a school house be constructed there. The first teachers on record were Lucien Fisher (1893—1894), A.B. Spencer (1895—1897). By 1912, Concord School had grown to be one of the five largest African-American rural schools in Leon County and was granted an assistant teacher. Station One School
Station One School is a former school located in the hamlet of Chaires, Leon County, Florida. The school was founded because the population of eastern Leon County was growing and there was no school closer than Tallahassee, away. The first mention of the school is in the 1870 school board minutes. It was constructed for white students only. In 1928, it was deemed "no longer suitable for the needs of the district". The school building had deteriorated and required a new roof. It did not have indoor plumbing and regularly flooded when there were heavy rains. Most importantly, the school was simply too small for the growing number of students. The county built a new school, Chaires School, with ”a coal heater, electricity, and a fresh well", as well as new desks and chairs. This school survives in 2018 as the Chaires Elementary School. Old Lincoln High School
Lincoln High School (also known as Lincoln Academy) was a high school located in Tallahassee, Florida, United States. It is commonly referred to as "Historic Lincoln High School" or "Old Lincoln". There is no connection with Leon County's current (and distant) Lincoln High School other than name. History Founding and early years Lincoln Academy opened in 1869 during Reconstruction as the first school for African Americans in Leon County, Florida. It was built by the Freedmen's Bureau. At one point it was one of only three schools in the state that provided high school to colored students. it was one of the best-equipped schools in the state and had an enrollment of 250.
