Leo Kalmet
Leo Kalmet (2 March 1900, Orajõe parish, Pärnu – 16 September 1975, Tallinn) was an Estonian stage actor and theatre director. Kalmet graduated from the Tallinn Humanitarian Gymnasium for Boys in 1920 and from the Drama Studio theater school in 1924. In addition, he studied at Tartu University's Faculty of Law, Department of Commerce from 1920 until 1925 as at the singing at the Tallinn Conservatory.Eesti teatri biograafiline leksikon Tallinn 2000 He participated in the Estonian War of Independence and taught at the Tallinn Conservatory. A monument to Kalmet can be found at Gonsiori in downtown Tallinn. Tartu University

The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (''Eesti Muusika- ja Teatriakadeemia'') began as a mixed choir of the Estonia Society Musical Department (EMD) on the eve of World War I. The assembly of the Estonia Society created the Tallinn Higher Music School on November 17, 1918. The opening ceremony took place on September 28, 1919. In 1923 the educational institution was renamed the Tallinn Conservatoire. In 1938 the State Drama School was opened. In 1993 the school was renamed the “Estonian Academy of Music”. In 1995 the Drama Faculty was renamed the Higher Theatre School. The Estonian War of Independence ( et, Vabadussõda, literally "Freedom War"), also known as the Estonian Liberation War, was a defensive campaign of the Estonian Army and its allies, most notably the United Kingdom, against the Bolshevik westward offensive of 1918–1919 and the 1919 aggression of the ''Baltische Landeswehr''. The campaign was the struggle of the newly established democratic nation of Estonia for independence in the aftermath of World War I.
