Belliveau's Cove, Nova Scotia
Belliveau Cove (French: ) is a historical Acadian community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in the District of Clare in Digby County settled in 1768 on un-ceded Mi'kmaq territory. A major centre of wooden shipbuilding in the 19th and early 20th century, Belliveau Cove built the second largest wooden ship ever constructed in Canada, the ''County of Yarmouth'' in 1884. It is now a mixed community of citizens with diverse backgrounds, including Acadians. Belliveau Cove was established in 1768 and is located on the west coast of the Nova Scotia peninsula on the St. Mary's Bay. Like many of the small Nova Scotia coastal port villages, Belliveau Cove was known for their wooden shipbuilding, shipping industry, and attendant services. Sir Thomas Henry (1807 – 1876) was an Anglo-Irish police magistrate. Life Thomas was born in Dublin in 1807. He was the eldest son of David Henry of St. Stephen's Green, Dublin and head of the government contractor firm Henry, Mullins, & MacMahon. He was educated at Von Feinagle's school in that city and later studied at Trinity College, where he graduated B.A. 1824 and M.A. 1827. On 23 January 1829, he was called to the bar at the Middle Temple, went the northern circuit, and attended the West Riding of Yorkshire sessions. He was magistrate at the Lambeth Street police-court, Whitechapel, from April 1840 until 1846. ''Saladin'' was a British barque that made voyages between Britain and the coast of Peru, carrying shipments of guano. The ship is best known for its demise in an act of mutiny, murder and piracy which began with the murder of its captain and officers and ended with the ship being stranded off the coast of Nova Scotia on 21 May 1844, followed by the last major piracy trial in Canada. Voyage ''Saladin'' sailed from Valparaiso on 8 February 1844, carrying a shipment of guano, 70 tons of copper, 13 bars of silver, and about $9000 of gold and silver coins. Digby Neck
Digby Neck is a Canadian peninsula extending into the Bay of Fundy in Digby County, Nova Scotia. Digby Neck is the western extension of the North Mountain range from the Annapolis Valley and is made of two thick lava flows. It is separated from the eastern portion of the North Mountain by a deep, tidal channel, the Digby Gut. Along with Long Island and Brier Island, it forms the northwest shore of St. Mary's Bay. The westernmost community on the Digby Neck is East Ferry, opposite Tiverton on Long Island to the west. The "Petit Passage" separates Long Island from the Digby Neck.
