Lenie ‘t Hart
Lenie 't Hart (born Leentje Godlieb) (born September 16, 1941 in Farmsum) is a Dutch animal caretaker and animal rights activist. In 1971, she founded the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre in Pieterburen, Groningen Groningen (; gos, Grunn or ) is the capital city and main municipality of Groningen province in the Netherlands. Farmsum
Farmsum () is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of Groningen (province), Groningen. It is a part of the municipality of Eemsdelta. History The village was first mentioned in the 10th or 11th century as "de Fretmarashem", and means "settlement of Fretmar". Farmsum was built on several house ''terps'' (artificial living hills) in the early middle ages. Farmsum used to be a ''proosdij'' (deanery) which ruled over 36 parishes. In 1515, Farmsum was burnt down by Magnus I, Duke of Saxe-Lauenburg. Farmsum was an independent municipality from 1808 until 1811 when it became part of Delfzijl. In 1814, it was destroyed by the French under Napoleon who had taken Delfzijl and wanted a clearer view on the countryside for defence. Huis te Farmsum was an estate built in the early 13th century. Pieterburen is a village in the northeastern Netherlands, located in the municipality of Het Hogeland, Groningen. History Around 1300, a dike was built north of the present village. During the 14th century, a settlement appeared on a mudflat of the river . The village was first mentioned in 1371 as Sancti Petri when the church was constructed. Seal Rehabilitation And Research Centre
The Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre (SRRC; nl, Zeehondencentrum Pieterburen) is located in Pieterburen, Netherlands. Lenie ‘t Hart founded the centre in 1971 and the centre has evolved from a simple "day care" for young seals to a scientific research-based seal hospital, with accompanying facilities such as quarantine, a laboratory, a chemist and modern research facilities. Hundreds of seals are cared for annually.
