Lengerich, Westphalia
Lengerich is a town in the district of Steinfurt, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated on the southern slope of the Teutoburg Forest, approx. 15 km south-west of Osnabrück and 30 km north-east of Münster. Transportation Lengerich is situated at the Wanne-Eickel-Hamburg railway and offers half-hourly connections to Münster and Osnabrück. The A1 autobahn also runs through Lengerich and the Lengerich/Tecklenburg exit is located to the west of the city. Steinfurt () is a ''Kreis'' (district) in the northern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Neighboring districts are Bentheim, Emsland, district-free Osnabrück and the Osnabrück district, Warendorf, district-free Münster, Coesfeld, Borken. Geography The district is situated at the Lower Saxon border, north of Münster. The Ems river runs through the district from south to north. Kai Strauss (born 15 May 1970) is a German electric blues singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He is a multiple winner of the German Blues Award and regularly tours with his band, Kai Strauss & The Electric Blues All Stars. Strauss has been involved in the release of seven albums since 2014. Julius Smend
Julius Smend (10 May 1857 – 7 June 1930) was a German theologian born in Lengerich, Westphalia. He was a brother to theologian Rudolf Smend (1851–1913) and the father of musicologist Friedrich Smend. He studied theology in Bonn, Halle and Göttingen, receiving his ordination in 1881. Afterwards he worked as an auxiliary minister in Bonn, and in 1885 became a minister in Seelscheid. In 1891 he taught classes at the seminary in Friedberg, and two years later was appointed professor of practical theology at the University of Strasbourg. In 1896 with Friedrich Spitta (1852–1924), he founded ''Monatsschrift für Gottesdienst und kirchliche Kunst'', a monthly magazine of worship and religious art. With Spitta, he was a primary representative of the ''Ältere liturgische Bewegung'' (Older Liturgical Movement), a theological entity that was created by Smend at the Thomaskirche in Strasbourg.
