Henry Schoolcraft
Henry Rowe Schoolcraft (March 28, 1793 – December 10, 1864) was an American geographer, geologist, and ethnology, ethnologist, noted for his early studies of Native Americans in the United States, Native American cultures, as well as for his 1832 expedition to the source of the Mississippi River. He is also noted for his major six-volume study of Native Americans commissioned by Congress and published in the 1850s. He served as United States Indian agent in Michigan for a period beginning in 1822. During this period, he named several newly organized counties, often creating neologisms that he claimed were derived from indigenous languages. There he married Jane Johnston Schoolcraft, Jane Johnston, daughter of a prominent Scotch-Irish American, Scotch-Irish fur trader and an Ojibwe mother, who was the high-ranking daughter of Waubojeeg, a war chief. Lenawee County ( ') is a County (United States), county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 99,423. The county seat is Adrian, Michigan, Adrian. The county was created in 1822, from territory partitioned from Monroe County, Michigan, Monroe County. Its governing structure was organized in 1826. Lenawee County comprises the Adrian, MI Micropolitan Statistical Area. It is served by the Toledo, Ohio, Toledo Media market. Lenawee County is home to the Potawatomi, Ottawa, Chippewa, Iroquois, Miami, Sauk, Fox, Mascoutens and Huron tribes. The Lenawee was a Veteran era American automobile manufactured by the Church Manufacturing Company of Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan in 1904. History After Church's successful production of the Murray runabout in 1902 and 1903, they produced the Lenawee. The Lenawee was to be the technically advanced successor to the Murray, designed by Andrew Bachle who would become well known as the long-term engineer at Paige-Detroit. The Lenawee was a left hand drive, five-seat tonneau body automobile, with a horizontal single-cylinder engine located beneath the front seat. They were priced at $1,000, {{Inflation, US, 1000, 1904, fmt=eq. Church discontinued Lenawee production after about 15 were built, and returned to the production of wire fences. One Lenawee is extant.
