Len Wyatt
John Leonard Wyatt (7 March 1919 – 29 January 2015) was a New Zealand cricketer who played for Northern Districts in the Plunket Shield in the 1956–57 season. He was the older brother of Ivan Wyatt. In World War II Len Wyatt served in New Caledonia and the Solomon Islands with the 1st Battalion, New Zealand Scottish Regiment and the 36th Battalion. He rose to the rank of lieutenant in 1942 and was posted to the Reserve of Officers in 1945. Wyatt played club and representative cricket until he was 59, scoring more than 40,000 runs with 128 centuries. He captained the Northland cricket team for several years, and when he was 37 he played in Northern Districts' inaugural season in the Plunket Shield in 1956–57. Leigh is a small coastal community in the north of the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It lies on the west side of Omaha Cove, a small inlet within Omaha Bay to the south of Cape Rodney. 36th Battalion (New Zealand)
The 36th Battalion was an infantry battalion of the New Zealand Military Forces, which served during the Second World War. Attached to the 8th Brigade, New Zealand 3rd Division, the battalion was formed in late 1941 and saw service in the Pacific against the Japanese. They were initially used for garrison duties on Fiji and Norfolk Island before being committed to the fighting in the Solomon Islands in 1943. The battalion was disbanded in late 1944 as part of a partial demobilisation of New Zealand forces, which saw some of its personnel being returned to civilian employment while others were sent to Italy as reinforcements for the New Zealand 2nd Division. James Everest
James Kerse Everest (28 March 1918 – 28 September 1992) was a New Zealand cricketer. He played first-class cricket for Auckland and Northern Districts between 1954 and 1957. Early life and career Jim Everest was born in Hamilton and attended Hamilton Technical College. He was part of the first Waikato team to win the Hawke Cup. He scored 53 and 16 when they successfully challenged Manawatu in a close match in February 1938 and remained in the team that held the trophy until they lost to Manawatu in January 1940. In World War II he served as a private in the New Zealand 24th Battalion in the Mediterranean campaigns and was taken prisoner. He continued to play for Waikato after the war, captaining them when they regained the Hawke Cup for the first time since 1940 in the last match of the 1950–51 season. The Northland cricket team represents the Northland region of New Zealand. It competes in the Hawke Cup. History The first mention of cricket in the history of New Zealand is from Northland: a game on the beach at Paihia, in the Bay of Islands, in December 1832. However, it was not until 1926 that a regional cricket body, the North Auckland Cricket Association, was established. The first match for the Dargaville Shield, contested by clubs within the Association, was played in January 1927, when Mangonui beat Northern Wairoa. North Auckland, captained by W. J. Dunning, played their first representative match when they drew a two-day match with Auckland in Auckland in April 1928. Auckland War Memorial Museum
The Auckland War Memorial Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira (or simply the Auckland Museum) is one of New Zealand's most important museums and war memorials. Its collections concentrate on New Zealand history (and especially the history of the Auckland Region), natural history, and military history. The present museum building was constructed in the 1920s in the neo-classicist style, and sits on a grassed plinth (the remains of a dormant volcano) in the Auckland Domain, a large public park close to the Auckland CBD. Auckland Museum's collections and exhibits began in 1852. In 1867 Aucklanders formed a learned society – the Auckland Philosophical Society, later the Auckland Institute. New Zealand Scottish Regiment
The New Zealand Scottish Regiment was a regiment of the New Zealand Army. It was formed in 1939 as an infantry regiment and raised two battalions during the Second World War. Although the 1st Battalion was sent overseas during the war as part of the 3rd Division, it never saw combat. The regiment was reformed in 1948 as a reconnaissance regiment of the Royal New Zealand Armoured Corps, but by the 1960s had been reduced to two independent squadrons. Various armoured vehicles were utilized by the regiment including Daimler Dingo Scout Cars, Daimler Armoured Cars, Ferret armoured cars and M113a1 armoured personnel carriers. Warkworth, New Zealand
Warkworth (Māori: ''Mahurangi'') is a town on the Northland Peninsula in the upper North Island of New Zealand. It is in the northern part of the Auckland Region. It is located on State Highway 1, north of Auckland and south of Whangārei, and is at the head of Mahurangi Harbour. The Warkworth district is known as the ''Kowhai Coast'', named after the native kōwhai tree, and the town's annual Kowhai Festival is one of the largest community festivals in the country, running for around a week in spring.
