Lemuel M. Wiles
Lemuel M. Wiles (1826–1905) was an American landscape painter. Early life Lemuel Maynard Wiles was born on October 21, 1826, in Perry, Wyoming County, New York. He studied landscape painting with Jasper Francis Cropsey. Career Wiles taught school in Perry, Utica and Albany. Wiles served as the Head of the Art Department at the University of Nashville. He also served as the Director of the College of Fine Arts at Ingham University. Wiles was an early traveler to California. His journey took him via the Isthmus of Panama all the way to the West Coast. Once in California, he did many landscape paintings of Spanish towns. In his lifetime, his paintings were often exhibited at the National Academy of Design. Moreover, he painted the Cucamonga Valley in 1874. Personal life Wiles resided at 101 West 55th Street in Manhattan. He had a son, Irving Ramsey Wiles, who became a portrait painter. Perry, New York
Perry is a town in Wyoming County, New York, United States. The population was 4,616 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry. The town is on the eastern border of the county. Perry is also the name of a village within the town. Locals often deem Perry the Bowling Capital of the World. The iconic lanes in town boast great talent, so good the lanes have no need for bumpers. The town is styled "home of the Silver Lake Sea Serpent" after a sea serpent sighting, possibly a hoax, in 1855. Le Roy, New York
Le Roy, or more commonly LeRoy, is a town in Monroe County, New York or Genesee County, New York, United States. The population was 7,641 at the time of the 2010 census. The town is named after one of the original land owners, Herman Le Roy. The town lies on the southwestern edge of Monroe County. Within the town is a village of Le Roy. The Jell-O gelatin dessert was invented and first manufactured in Le Roy. History The area was first settled in 1793. The town of Le Roy was established in 1812 as the "Town of Bellona" from part of the town of Caledonia ( Livingston County). Chester Beach
Chester A. Beach (May 23, 1881 – August 6, 1956) was an American sculptor who was known for his busts and medallic art. Early life Beach was born in San Francisco, California. He studied initially at the California School of Mechanical Arts and worked as a jewelry designer immediately afterward, while continuing his art studies at the Mark Hopkins Institute of Art. In 1903 he moved to New York City and in May 1904, he moved to Paris to study at the École des Beaux-Arts as well as under the tutelage of Raoul Verlet at the Académie Julian. Career He returned to the U.S. in 1907 and quickly gained a following for his representations of allegorical and mythical figures.
