Leland, Norway
Leland is the administrative centre of the municipality of Leirfjord in Nordland county, Norway. it is located on the northern shore of the Leirfjorden along Norwegian County Road 17. The town of Sandnessjøen lies about southwest of Leland. The village of Sundøy lies to the south and the village of Bardalssjøen lies to the northeast. Leland features two small grocery stores, a hairdresser, a café, a large sports centre, Leirfjord Church, and a number of other amenities. Leirfjord Church
Leirfjord Church ( no, Leirfjord kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Leirfjord Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Leland. It is the main church for the Leirfjord parish which is part of the Nord-Helgeland prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The wooden church was built in a cruciform style in 1867 using plans drawn up by the architect Niels Stockfleth Darre Eckhoff. The church seats about 450 people. History The first church in Leirfjord was constructed in 1867 and was consecrated on 27 August 1867. Over time, the movement of the ground due to the frost, contributed to some structural damage. There was also a leak along one of the chimneys. Restoration and repair work was scheduled to begin in 1937, but due to the German occupation in World War II, the work did not begin until 1950 after the war was over. Bardalssjøen
Bardal is a village in the municipality of Leirfjord in Nordland county, Norway. The village is located along the south coast of the Ranfjorden, about west of the village of Hemnesberget. The village surrounds the Bardalselva river which flows into the fjord. The Bardal Church was built in 1887 on a hill near the mouth of the river. The Bardal area has historically been part of both Nesna Municipality (to the north) and Hemnes Municipality (to the east), but it has been part of Leirfjord Municipality since 1964. Culture Wangbrygga is a folk museum located by the river outlet in Bardal. The museum has free entry and is open some days a week in the summer. Sundøy or Sundøya is a village in the municipality of Leirfjord in Nordland county, Norway. The village is located about south of the village of Leland. Sundøya has a population of about 120 people. It is located on the north side of the Vefsnfjorden on the northeastern part of the island of Alsta, east of the Seven Sisters mountains, which isolate it from the rest of the island. Sandnessjøen is a town and the administrative centre of Alstahaug Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. Sandnessjøen was granted special trading privileges in the late 1600s and it received town status in 1999. County Road 17 ( no, Fylkesvei 17), also known as the Coastal Highway ( no, Kystriksveien), is a Norwegian highway that runs from the town of Bodø in Nordland county (in the north) to the town of Steinkjer in Trøndelag county (in the south). It is long and includes six ferry crossings. The road runs along the coast of Nordland and Trøndelag counties through 28 different municipalities. This road is a much more scenic, albeit longer and more time-consuming, route than the inland European Route E6 highway.
