Leif Flengsrud
Leif Flengsrud (18 September 1922 – 24 August 2009) was a Norwegian cyclist. He was born in Vang, Hedmark and represented the club Hamar IL. He participated in the 1948 Summer Olympics The 1948 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XIV Olympiad and also known as London 1948) were an international multi-sport event held from 29 July to 14 August 1948 in London, England, United Kingdom. Following a twelve-year hiatus ca ... but did not finish the road race. He was the first Olympic cyclist from his region. He also competed in the World Championships in the same year. His father Olaf and brother Oddvar were cyclists as well. His father had opened a bike shop in 1920, and Flengsrud later spent his working life in this shop. He also continued as a hobby sportsman well into his seventies and eighties. He died in August 2009 in Hamar. Vang, Hedmark
Vang is a former municipality in the old Hedmark county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1992 when it became part of Hamar Municipality. The administrative centre of the municipality was at Fredvang. This site, however became part of the town of Hamar in 1946, so after that time, the municipal administration was actually located outside the municipal borders in the neighboring municipality. The main church for the municipality was Vang Church in the village of Ridabu. Gåsbu Ski Center lies in Vang Almenning, and has served as the backup venue for the ''Holmenkollrennene''. This arena has been described as the cradle of all Nordic ski competition, with more than 112 years of international ski competition. The national cross-country skiing championship was last held here in 2002. Hamar Idrettslag is a Norwegian sports club from Hamar. It has sections for bandy, curling, association football, athletics, sport shooting, rowing, speed skating, diving, swimming, tennis, figure skating and gymnastics. It was founded in 1921 by the parties Hamar SK (founded 1901, speed skating), Hamar TF (founded 1896, gymnastics), Hamar SK (founded 1891, Nordic skiing), Hamar Game Club (founded 1903, tennis and cycling), Hamar FL (founded 1912, association football) and IF Tor (founded 1919, athletics and amateur boxing).
