Lehane ( ga, Ó Liatháin) is an uncommon Irish surname, typically from County Cork. Ó Liatháin is more frequently anglicized as Lane or Lyons (surname), Lyons. Most people with this surname derive from the ancient Munster kingdom of Uí Liatháin, which was powerful in the early to mid 1st millennium, and one of the few important Irish kingdoms to have colonies in Britain, documented in both Irish and Wales, Welsh sources (see Byrne 2001; Ó Corráin 2001). Later Uí Liatháin became politically marginalized when the Eóganachta, or more specifically the descendants of Conall Corc, came to power - although the ''rath'' they accepted from the new dynasty was the largest (Byrne 2001) - but remained relatively independent until disintegrating in the later Middle Ages. Dennis Lehane (born August 4, 1965) is an American author. He has published more than a dozen novels; the first several were a series of mysteries featuring recurring characters, including ''A Drink Before the War''. Of these, four were adapted as films of the same names: Clint Eastwood's ''Mystic River'' (2003), Martin Scorsese's ''Shutter Island'' (2010), and ''Gone Baby Gone'' (2007) and ''Live by Night'' (2016), both directed by Ben Affleck. Cornelius "Con" Lehane (also spelled O'Lyhane) (1877–31 December 1919) was a socialist active in the Irish Socialist Republican Party, the Social Democratic Federation, and the Socialist Party of Great Britain. Ireland Lehane was born in Coachford, County Cork in 1877. Although a graduate in Irish and chemistry from Cork Technical School, by profession Lehane was a clerk (cf. E. J. B. Allen). Like Valentine McEntee, Lehane had been a member of James Connolly's Irish Socialist Republican Party and indeed was one of the dozen or so most important members. As "Proletarian", he wrote many articles for the ISRP journal, ''The Workers Republic'', and designed the front cover for the ISRP's ''Workers’ Republic'' pamphlet series. Lesley (Welch) Lehane (born March 12, 1963, in Lynn, MA) is an American retired long-distance runner. High school career Lehane graduated from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School class of 1981, winning back to back to back cross country individual state titles from her sophomore through senior years. Her best times on the track in high school include a 9:27 3000 meter run and a 34:48 10,000 meter run. College and professional career Lehane attended University of Virginia for two years, and subsequently transferred to Boston University. Her career highlights in cross country include winning both the NCAA and TAC National Championships in 1982, a 5th-place finish at the 1987 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, and a repeat as TAC National Championship winner in 1986. Janice Patricia "Jan" Lehane O'Neill OAM (née Lehane; born 9 July 1941) is a former Australian female tennis player. She was the first leading female player with a double-handed backhand. She won the singles title at the New South Wales Championships in 1959 after a three-sets victory in the final against Mary Carter Reitano. In 1960, she successfully defended her title by winning the semifinal against world No. 1 ranked Maria Bueno and the final in straight sets against Margaret Smith. At the Australian Championships, Lehane reached the singles final four consecutive years (1960–1963) but lost to Margaret Smith each time. ''Mystic River'' is a novel by Dennis Lehane that was published in 2001 in literature, 2001. It won the 2002 Dilys Award and was made into an Academy Award-winning Mystic River (film), film in 2003. Plot summary The novel revolves around three boys who grow up as friends in Boston — Dave Boyle, Sean Devine, and Jimmy Marcus. When the story opens, Dave is abducted by child molestation, child molesters while he, Sean, and Jimmy are horsing around on a neighborhood street. Dave escapes and returns home days later, emotionally shattered by his experience.
