Legrome D. Davis
Legrome Derek Davis (born 1952) is an inactive Senior Status, Senior United States federal judge, United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Education and career Born in Columbus, Ohio, Columbus, Ohio, Davis received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University in 1973 and a Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law - Camden in 1976. Davis was an assistant district attorney in Philadelphia from 1977 to 1980. After leaving the D.A.'s office Judge Davis spent a year as an attorney for the Pennsylvania Crime Commission. He returned to the D.A.'s office from 1981 to 1987, before spending a year in the general counsel's office at the University of Pennsylvania. He was briefly in private practice in Pennsylvania in 1987. He was elected a judge on the court of common pleas in Philadelphia, where he served from 1987 to 2002. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges.
