Lego Speed Racer (stylized as ''LEGO Speed Racer'') was a 2008 Lego theme based on the 2008 film ''Speed Racer'' (which is based on the anime of the same name). It consists of four sets which were first released in April 2008. The product line was discontinued by the end of 2009. Overview The product line focuses on Speed Racer, an 18-year-old automobile racer who follows his apparently deceased brother's career, choosing to remain loyal to his family and their company Racer Motors, which causes difficulties after he refuses a contract that E.P. Arnold Royalton, owner of Royalton Industries, offers him. Lego models of important scenes, vehicles and characters were made for the first six films and all of the published books. Lego Themes
A Lego theme is a product line of Lego construction toys produced by The Lego Group based on a central concept. Before 1978, Lego produced several construction sets with common themes, but they were not necessarily branded as part of a single series or theme. Following the introduction of minifigures in 1978, owner Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen pushed a new strategy of creating and marketing a series of sets he termed a "system within the system" and the three original environments (based on the present, past and future, respectively) were launched: Town, Castle, and Space. In 1987, Lego created themes within these environments, as well as introducing branding that identified a set as part of a theme. Lego World Racers (stylized as ''LEGO World Racers'') was a Lego theme that centred around two racing teams competing to win the world cup. The first six sets were released in May and June 2010, with an additional three sets being released later in 2010. The theme was discontinued in the same year. Story Lego World Racers was based on a storyline that focused on two racing teams named the Backyard Blasters and the X-Treme Daredevils that compete in races across the world to win the world cup. Lego Speed Champions is an auto racing-inspired theme of Lego building sets first released in 2015. It features classic and modern styles from well-known car brands. Lego Fusion was a Lego theme that combined standard Lego bricks with a mobile app (for iOS and Android) that was designed to interact and communicate with the build models according to the principle of augmented reality.
