Lefteris Kakiousis
Eleftherios "Lefteris" Kakiousis ( el, Ελευθέριος "Λευτέρης" Κακιούσης; born 7 June 1968 in Thessaloniki, Greece) is a retired Greek professional basketball player and a professional basketball coach. He played at the point guard and shooting guard positions. Playing career Clubs Kakiousis began his professional club career in 1987, with Iraklis. His moved to PAOK in 1997 would be followed by hey winning the Greek Basketball Cup in 1999. He finished his playing career with Makedonikos. Greece national team With the Greece men's national basketball team, Kakiousis played at the EuroBasket 1993, the EuroBasket 1995, and the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. He has represented Greece at senior level in 44 games, averaging 3.6 points per game. Coaching career Kakiousis began his club coaching career, as the head coach of Makedonikos in 2001. The Greek A2 Basket League ( el, Ελληνική Α2 Μπάσκετ Λιγκ, link=no), is a professional basketball league in Greece. It is the 2nd-tier level of pro competition, among clubs in the country. It is organized by the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.). 2005 EuroBasket
The 2005 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 2005, was the 34th FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship held by FIBA Europe. It also served as Europe qualifier for the 2006 FIBA World Championship, giving a berth to the top six teams in the final standings. Greek National Basketball Team
The Greece men's national basketball team ( el, Eθνική Oμάδα Καλαθοσφαίρισης Ελλάδος) represents Greece in international basketball. They are controlled by the Hellenic Basketball Federation, the governing body for basketball in Greece. Greece is currently ranked ninth in the FIBA World Rankings. Greece appeared eight times at the FIBA World Cup, their best performance coming in 2006 as runners-up, after beating the United States 101–95 in the tournament's semi-final. The 2003–04 Greek Basket League season was the 64th season of the Greek Basket League, the highest tier professional basketball league in Greece. It was also the 12th season of Greek Basket League championship that was regulated by HEBA (ESAKE). The Greek Basket League (GBL), often also referred to as the Greek A1 Basketball League, or Greek Basketball Championship (originally called Panhellenic Basketball Championship), and also known as the Stoiximan Basket League for sponsorship reasons, is the first tier level professional basketball league in Greece. It is run by HEBA ( el, ΕΣΑΚΕ, link=no), under the legal authority of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.). It is the highest-tier level of the Greek league system. The GBL plays under FIBA rules and currently consists of 13 teams, with the lowest-placed team relegated to the A2 Basket League and replaced by the winner of the play-offs of that tier. It runs from October to June, with teams playing 22 games each during the regular season, and the top 8 teams then competing in the playoffs.
