Left Of Galicia
Left of Galicia ( gl, Esquerda de Galicia, EdeG) was a political party in Galicia, Spain, led by Anxo Guerreiro and active between 1998 and 2002. History In 1997 a sector of United Left of Galicia, led by the General coordinator Anxo Guerreiro (supported from Madrid by the Democratic Party of the New Left), decided to form a coalition with the Socialists' Party of Galicia (PSdeG-PSOE) in the 1997 Galician elections, against the decisions of the national conference. Another sector was against that decision, and run with their own lists, and with the support of the federal United Left. Left of Galicia won two seats (held by Miguel Anxo Guerreiro and Xosé Manuel Pazos). The results of the leftist coalition, however, were very disappointing. Altogether the coalition only obtained 15 seats (behind both the People's Party of Galicia and the Galician Nationalist Bloc). Anxo Guerreiro
Ángel Guerreiro Carreiras (28 August 1945 – 18 July 2013), mostly known by the forename Anxo (the Galician form of the Spanish Ángel) and nicknamed "Geluco", was a Spanish politician. He was a member of the Parliament of Galicia for the Communist Party of Galicia (1981–1985) and the Left of Galicia (1997–2001), and led both parties. Biography Guerreiro was born in Xermade in the Province of Lugo. While studying Chemistry at the University of Santiago de Compostela, he joined the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) which was still outlawed by Francisco Franco. Inspired by the May 68 protests in Paris, he took part in clandestine political activity and was imprisoned three times. In the late 1970s, Guerreiro became part of the central committees of both the Communist Party of Galicia (PCG) and the nationwide party, before becoming secretary general of the former in 1979. Galician Nationalist Bloc
The Galician Nationalist Bloc ( gl, Bloque Nacionalista Galego, BNG ) is a political alliance of left-wing Galician nationalist parties. It is self-defined as a "patriotic front". Formed in 1982, under the guidance of historical leader Xosé Manuel Beiras, the BNG calls for further devolution of powers to the Parliament of Galicia and the official and unambiguous recognition of Galicia as a nation. The BNG also promotes affirmative action for the Galician language. The current leader – president of the National Council and national spokesperson – is Ana Pontón. The People's Party of Galicia ( Galician/Spanish: ''Partido Popular de Galicia'' , PP or PPdeG ) is a conservative political party in Galicia, Spain. It is the Galician affiliate of the Spanish People's Party. Prior to the 2005 Galician elections, the PPdeG had been in power for 15 years. In the election the party won one seat shy of an absolute majority. The other two parties with deputies (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party and Galician Nationalist Bloc) were then able to form a governing coalition. United Left ( es, Izquierda Unida , IU) is a federative political movement in Spain that was first organized as a coalition in 1986, bringing together several left-wing political organizations, most notably the Communist Party of Spain. IU was founded as an electoral coalition of seven parties, but the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) is the only remaining integrated member of the IU at the national level.
