Leeds School Of Medicine
The School of Medicine is the medical school of the University of Leeds, in the city of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The School of Medicine was founded in 1831. The School of Medicine now forms part of the University's Faculty of Medicine and Health. The School is composed of institutes located at multiple sites in West Yorkshire including the Worsley Building, LIGHT, St James's Campus, and Chapel Allerton Hospital. The School of Medicine is primarily linked with two major hospitals for clinical teaching: the Leeds General Infirmary and St James's University Hospital, both run by the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, alongside smaller district NHS Trusts. Chapel Allerton Hospital
Chapel Allerton Hospital is located in the area of Chapel Allerton, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England and is operated by the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The main entrance is on Chapeltown Road, with vehicle exits onto Harehills Lane and Newton Road. History The hospital was founded in 1927, to care for injured soldiers from the First World War under the then Ministry of Pensions, replacing a military hospital at Beckett Park. It was opened on 16 May 1927 by Princess Mary. She had been welcomed by the Leeds Lord Mayor Hugh Lupton, whose niece, Anne Lupton, had been appointed a MBE in 1920 for her work on the Leeds War Pensions Committee, advising injured soldiers. Margot Shiner
Margot Shiner (nee Last; 4 June 1923 – 31 July 1998) was a German-British gastroenterologist and medical researcher who worked in London and Israel. As a result of her development of a new technique to biopsy the small intestine in children, she has been credited with launching the subspecialty of paediatric gastroenterology. Early life Margot Last was born on 4 June 1923 to a Jewish family in Berlin, where her father worked as a textile merchant. In 1936, her family fled Nazi Germany to Prague; they settled in London in 1938. She attended Parliament Hill School and received a medical degree from the University of Leeds in 1947. William Pickles (doctor)
William Norman Pickles (6 March 1885 – 2 March 1969) was a British physician who worked as a general practitioner and was the first president of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1953. He showed the opportunities available to GPs for epidemiological observation in two ''British Medical Journal'' ''(BMJ)'' articles in 1930, on ' catarrhal jaundice' and in 1933, on Bornholm disease. His observations reached a wider audience in his book, '' Epidemiology in Country Practice'' (1939). This contained pioneering work on the incubation periods of common infectious diseases of the time and earned him the reputation of one of the world's leading epidemiologists. Berkeley Moynihan, 1st Baron Moynihan
Berkeley George Andrew Moynihan, 1st Baron Moynihan LL.D (2 October 1865 – 7 September 1936), known as Sir Berkeley Moynihan, 1st Baronet, from 1922 to 1929, was a noted British abdominal surgeon. Early years Moynihan was born in Malta in 1865, the son of Captain Andrew Moynihan, VC. His father died in 1867 and Moynihan moved with his mother to Leeds, Yorkshire. David Henry Lewis
David Henry Lewis (1917 – 23 October 2002) was a sailor, adventurer, doctor, and scholar of Polynesian culture. He is best known for his studies on the traditional systems of navigation used by the Pacific Islanders. His studies, published in the book ''We, the Navigators'', made these navigational methods known to a wide audience and helped to inspire a revival of traditional voyaging methods in the South Pacific. Gillian Catherine Leng, Lady Cosford CBE is a British health administrator, academic, visiting professor at King's College London and the former Chief Executive of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), where she was responsible for several programmes and guidelines including the guidelines on COVID-19. Rubina Gillani
Rubina Gillani is a Pakistani medical doctor and public health specialist from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. She trained as a general practitioner and worked for the Pakistan Air Force for six years. Gillani was the Fred Hollows Foundation's Country Manager in Pakistan since 1998, but left it in 2014.
