Ledóchowski (feminine form: Ledóchowska, plural: Ledóchowscy; uk, Ледуховські) is the name of a Ruthenian, Polish and Austrian noble family of Ruthenian origin from Volhynia. Members of the family have over the centuries distinguished themselves through services to the Catholic Church, the Austrian Crown as well as the Polish Crown. History The Ledóchowski family lineage begins in 1457 in the Volhynian Voivodeship of the Commonwealth of the Crown of the Polish Kingdom, where the boyar knight Nestor Halka took the name of his estate, Ledochow, as his own. It is said that the boyar dynastic family Halka family draw their origins to the times of the Kievan Rus in 971 As direct descendants of these boyar knights, members of the Ledóchowski family bear the same Coat of Arms with the name Szalawa (Herb Szalawa). Wlodimir Ledóchowski
Włodzimierz Halka Ledóchowski, S.J. (fr: Vladimir, de: Vlodimir; 7 October 1866 – 13 December 1942) was a Polish Catholic priest who served as the 26th Superior-General of the Society of Jesus from 11 February 1914 until his death in 1942. Prior to taking holy orders, he was briefly a page in the Habsburg Court. Early life He was one of nine children of Count Antoni Halka Ledóchowski and the Swiss Countess Joséphine née Salis-Zizers. He was born in a manor house built by his father in Loosdorf, near St. Pölten, Lower Austria. His uncle was Cardinal Mieczysław Halka-Ledóchowski, and two of his sisters entered the religious life and have become known as Saint Urszula Ledóchowska and Blessed Teresa Ledóchowska. His brother, Ignacy Kazimierz Ledóchowski, was a General in the Polish Army. Ledóchowski studied first at the Theresianum in Vienna and was for a time page to the Empress Elizabeth. Ursula Ledóchowska
Julia Ledóchowska, USAHJ (17 April 1865 – 29 May 1939) - in religious Maria Ursula of Jesus - was a Polish Catholic nun and the foundress of the Ursulines of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus. Ledóchowska was a prolific supporter of Polish independence which she often spoke about at conferences across Scandinavia while she settled in Russia for a time to open convents until her expulsion. But she continued to found convents across Scandinavian countries and even translated a Finnish catechism for the faithful there while later founding her own order which she would later manage from Rome at the behest of Pope Benedict XV. Her death caused a tremendous outpouring of grief across Europe in the places that she had lived in and had visited; before long there were calls for a sainthood process to launch which would open 15 October 1981 (titling her as a Servant of God) despite diocesan investigations happening decades prior. Stanisław Ledóchowski (1666–1725) was a polish marshal of the Crown Tribunal (1701), member of the Sandomierz Confederation of 1704, marshal of the Tarnogród Confederation (1715–1716), marshal of the Sejm during Sejm Niemy of 1717. Stanisław Ledóchowski began serving his country under the leadership of King Jan III Sobieski. In 1683, as an 18-year-old young man he took part, together with his two brothers, Felicjan and Kazimierz, in the relief of Vienna. After his return to Poland Stanisław embarked on an exceptional political and military career – he was Marshall of the Senate, voivod of the Volhynian Voivodship and Marshall of the Tarnogród Confederation. Pyotr Nikolayevich Krasnov ( rus, Пётр Николаевич Краснов; 22 September (old style: 10 September) 1869 – 17 January 1947), sometimes referred to in English as Peter Krasnov, was a Don Cossack historian and officer, promoted to Lieutenant General of the Russian army when the revolution broke out in 1917, one of the leaders of the counter-revolutionary White movement afterwards and a Nazi collaborator who mobilized Cossack forces to fight against the Soviet Union during World War II. Krasnov was also a prominent figure in the White Terror. He presided over the executions and exiling of tens of thousands of "Red" Cossacks. Tczew (, csb, Dërszewò; formerly ) is a city on the Vistula River in Pomerelia, Eastern Pomerania, Kociewie, northern Poland with 59,111 inhabitants (December 2021).
