Lebanese Government Of April 2013
The formation of a new government led by Tammam Salam followed two weeks of negotiations after the resignation of Najib Mikati's government. Salam's candidacy was backed by the March 14 Alliance, the Progressive Socialist Party, Najib Mikati and the Amal Movement. The government would be the sixth one designated to oversee elections since Lebanon's independence in 1943 when the 2014 general election takes place. A national unity government was announced on 15 February 2014. Despite his nomination by 124 of 128 MPs, Salam then failed to form a consensus government amidst political demands. Salam finally announced his proposed cabinet that included members from the March 8 and March 14 alliances, as well as independents on 15 February 2014. Samir Moqbel
Samir Mouqbel ( ar, سمير مقبل) (born 1939) is a Lebanese politician. He was the deputy prime minister and defense minister of Lebanon. Early life and education Mouqbel was born in 1939. He graduated from the American University of Beirut with a degree in civil engineering. Career Mouqbel is a Greek Orthodox Christian Independent, and was Lebanon's first state minister responsible for environment from 1992 to 1995 in the first cabinet of Rafic Hariri. He was appointed deputy to the prime minister Najib Mikati on 13 June 2011. He was reappointed deputy prime minister in the cabinet led by Tammam Salam in February 2013. Walid Jumblatt
Walid Kamal Jumblatt ( ar, وليد جنبلاط; born 7 August 1949) is a Lebanese Druze politician and former militia commander who has been leading the Progressive Socialist Party since 1977. While leading the Lebanese National Resistance Front and allying with the Amal Movement during the Lebanese Civil War, he worked closely with Suleiman Frangieh to oppose Amine Gemayel's rule as president in 1983. After the civil war, he initially supported Syria but later led an anti-Assad stance during the start of the Syrian Civil War.
