Jim Leavy
James H. Leavy (1842 – June 5, 1882) was an Irish gunfighter in the Old West. He is remembered today by Western historians for participating in at least two instances of a quick draw duel. In his time, Leavy was one of the most notorious gunmen in the Old West known for challenging other gunmen to a duel. He is featured in the book ''Deadly Dozen'', written by author Robert K. DeArment as one of the twelve most underrated gunmen of the 19th century West. Historian Erik J. Wright notes that Leavy's name was in fact spelled "Leavy" as it was spelled this way on a number of primary documents from his time in Nevada and Arizona. Bill Leavy
Bill Leavy (pronounced LEE-vee; born February 13, 1947) is a retired American football official who officiated in the National Football League (NFL) from the 1995 through 2014 seasons, wore uniform number 127, and is also a retired San Jose, California police officer and firefighter, serving for 27 years. In his twenty-year NFL officiating career, Leavy was assigned to fifteen playoff games, including two Super Bowls. He was selected as a back judge on the Super Bowl XXXIV officiating crew in 2000 and most recently headed up the Super Bowl XL officiating crew as referee in 2006. Calvin Leavy
Calvin Leavy (April 20, 1940 – June 6, 2010) was an American soul-blues and electric blues singer and guitarist. He had a hit single in 1970, when "Cummins Prison Farm" peaked at number 40 on the US ''Billboard'' R&B chart and stayed on the chart for five weeks. Locally, it was number one on the chart of radio station WDIA, based in Memphis, Tennessee. Later in his life, Leavy became the first person indicted under the 1989 Arkansas "drug kingpin law". Edward Leavy
Edward Leavy (born August 14, 1929) is a Senior United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and a former judge for the United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review. Prior to these positions, Leavy was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Oregon. Education and career Leavy was born in Butteville, Oregon, along the Willamette River south of Portland in 1929. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Portland in 1950, and earned his Bachelor of Laws from the Notre Dame Law School in 1953. Joseph Britton Leavy (March 7, 1872 – July 25, 1921), of New York City and Washington, D.C., was an active stamp collector who served at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. Collecting interests Leavy specialized in collecting the postage stamps and postal history of Belgium and the Netherlands. Philatelic activity Joseph Leavy served at the Smithsonian Institution as the first "Government Philatelist" at the museum.
