''Leathernose'' (French: ''Nez de cuir'', Italian: ''Naso di cuoio'') is a 1952 French-Italian historical drama film directed by Yves Allégret and starring Jean Marais, Françoise Christophe and Mariella Lotti.Hayward p.68 It is an adaptation of the 1936 novel by Jean de La Varende, set in France in the years after the Napoleonic Wars. It was shot at the Joinville Studios. The film's sets were designed by the art director Georges Wakhévitch. Jean Marais
Jean-Alfred Villain-Marais (11 December 1913 – 8 November 1998), known professionally as Jean Marais (), was a French actor, film director, theatre director, painter, sculptor, visual artist, writer and photographer. He performed in over 100 films and was the muse and lover of acclaimed director Jean Cocteau. In 1996, he was awarded the French Legion of Honor for his contributions to French Cinema. The Società Italiana Cines (''Italian Cines Company'') is a film company specializing in production and distribution of films. The company was founded on 1 April 1906. A major force in the European film industry before the First World War, the company took part in the Paris Film Congress in 1909, a failed attempt to create a cartel similar to the MPPC in the United States. In 1926 the company was taken over by Stefano Pittaluga who oversaw production until his death in 1932. Emilio Cecchi served as head of production for a year following Pittaluga's death. In 1930, at the time of the rebirth of Italian cinema, the old label had produced The Song of Love, the first sound film in Italy. The new Cines Studios were constructed in Rome and functioned as the country's most important film studios until they were destroyed in a fire in 1935. Françoise Prévost (13 January 1930 – 30 November 1997) was a French actress, journalist and author. She was the daughter of writer Marcelle Auclair. She appeared in more than 70 films between 1949 and 1985. Life and career Prévost was born and died in Paris, France. She made her film debut at 18, in '' Jean de la Lune''. After several minor roles she emerged with the Nouvelle Vague, with roles of weight in films by Pierre Kast, Jean-Gabriel Albicocco and Jacques Rivette. Starting from 1960s she was also pretty active in the Italian cinema, starring in leading roles in dramas, comedies and genre films. Massimo Girotti (18 May 1918 – 5 January 2003) was an Italian film actor whose career spanned seven decades. Born in Mogliano, in the province of Macerata, Girotti developed his athletic physique by swimming and playing polo. Georges Wakhévitch
Georges Wakhévitch (russian: Георгий Леонидович Вахевич; Georgy Leonidovich Vakhevich; August 18, 1907 in Odessa, Russian Empire – February 11, 1984 in Paris) was a Russian-born French art director. The son of a naval engineer, he immigrated to France in 1921. He grew up in Paris, where he studied painting. He was an assistant to film director Lazare Meerson in the 1920s. Wakhévitch also designed sets and costumes for the theatre, the ballet, and the opera. His designs usually used vivid colours and successful sets for Covent Garden included '' Boris Godunov'', '' Otello'', ''Die Meistersinger'' and London's first ever staging of Verdi's '' Macbeth'' in 1960.
