League1 Alberta
League1 Alberta (L1AB) is a proposed semi-professional men's and women's soccer league in Alberta, Canada, to be sanctioned by the Canadian Soccer Association and the Alberta Soccer Association as a tier 3 league in the Canadian soccer league system. Belonging to the League1 Canada organization, the men's division will fall below the Canadian Premier League (CPL), and both divisions will be equivalent to current pro-am leagues in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec. The league will begin in 2023 as an exhibition series, and plans to fully launch in 2024. History In 2021, a group of clubs from British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba organized the 2021 Summer Series, a series of friendly soccer matches played between Western Canadian soccer clubs to showcase a potential national second division. Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club is a Canadian soccer team based in Calgary, Alberta that plays in the men's and women's divisions of League1 Alberta. History The club was founded in 1967 with a team of 11 and 12-year-old boys, who represented the province of Alberta at an Expo 67 soccer competition in Montreal, and upon their return, they adopted the name of a defunct Canadian Junior Football team (North Hill Blizzards) and became an official club. St. Albert Soccer Association Impact FC is a Canadian women's soccer team based in St. Albert, Alberta that plays in United Women's Soccer. History The St. Albert Soccer Association was founded in 1999 as a youth soccer club. The club is one of seven Alberta clubs to be a Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) National Youth License Member. In 2021, the club joined the US-based pro-am United Women's Soccer as an expansion franchise, becoming the league's second Canadian club after Calgary Foothills WFC. The team's budget is $100,000-$150,000 depending on travel. Their initial season was in jeopardy, after missing the deadline to be approved by the Canadian Soccer Association to apply for cross-border play, but after being given a 24 hour extension, they were able to complete their registration.
