''Leader of the Starry Skies: A Tribute to Tim Smith, Songbook 1'' is a compilation album featuring cover versions of songs by Tim Smith (Cardiacs), Tim Smith, the songwriter behind Cardiacs, The Sea Nymphs (band), The Sea Nymphs, Spratleys Japs and his solo project Tim Smith's Extra Special OceanLandWorld, OceanLandWorld. It was released on CD on 13 December 2010 on the Believers Roast label (via Genepool distribution). The release date for download, via iTunes, was 20 December 2010. All contributing artists and bands have either stated a strong Cardiacs influence in their music, profess sincere admiration for Tim Smith (Cardiacs), Smith's work, or feature at least one person who has at some time been involved with Cardiacs. Tribute Album
An album is a collection of audio recordings issued on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium such as digital distribution. Katharine Blake (singer)
Katharine Blake (born 1970) is a British singer, songwriter and musician, originally from London. She was the lead singer of gothic rock band Miranda Sex Garden, and is a founding member, singer, and musical director of the musical group Mediæval Bæbes. She was married to Nick Marsh, the lead singer of rock band Flesh for Lulu, until his death in 2015. Their first child was born in February 2007. Their second daughter was born in 2009. In 2006 ''Stories From the Moon'', an ethereal collaborative concept album, was released. It included contributions from Katharine Blake. In 2015, Katharine Blake and Nick Marsh's collaborative self-titled album ''From The Deep'' was released on Bellissima Records. The Trudy
The Trudy are an English post-punk band formed in Kingston upon Thames in 1979 by former Cardiacs members Peter Tagg (drums) and Ralph Cade (vocals and keyboards) along with Derek Tagg (guitar) and Sue Smallwood (bass). In 1980 The Trudy, with the above line-up, released an album Volcano Fo Le Ferret, on Binkie Records along with another Kingston band The Magnificent 7, with each band featuring on one side of the record. In 1981 the band were included on the various artist compilation LP The Snoopies Album, which also included The Europeans and Cardiacs among others. In 1982 the band released the cassette single Air Commodore. By this time Sue Smallwood had been replaced on bass by Jon Bastable Jnr and second guitarist Ian Plummer had been added. Knifeworld
Knifeworld is a British-based psychedelic rock band led by Kavus Torabi. Originally a Torabi solo project, it became a full band in summer 2009. Knifeworld has connections with various English musical projects both inside and outside the rock world, having shared members with Cardiacs, Chrome Hoof, North Sea Radio Orchestra and Sidi Bou Said (London-based oud player Khyam Allami also served as the band's original drummer). Kavus Torabi
Kavus Torabi ( fa, كاووس تورابى; born 5 December 1971) is a British-Iranian musician and composer, record label owner and broadcaster. A multi-instrumentalist, he is known for his work in the psychedelic, avant-garde rock field (primarily as a guitarist). Torabi was one of the founding members of the Monsoon Bassoon (as singer, guitarist and one of the two primary composers), was a member of cult psychedelic rock group Cardiacs, and fronts and plays guitar for the current lineup of legendary psychedelic band Gong. Torabi also leads his own group Knifeworld and is a member of Guapo and the Utopia Strong. Mark Cawthra
Mark Cawthra is an English musician and record producer working in the UK. He was born in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England. Biography Cawthra's first serious musical activity was in an early (unnamed) music project with schoolfriend Tim Smith (bass guitar) and David Philpot (keyboards), a band in which he was the drummer. The music, a mix of jazz and rock, drew inspiration from the "Canterbury" bands, particularly Egg. After a period of playing drums with other musicians around Kingston upon Thames, he moved to North Yorkshire and lived there for the whole of 1978. Clearlake were an indie rock band, based in Brighton, England. They released three albums between 2001 and 2006. The band has been inactive since 2009. History The band formed in 1999, and released their debut single, "Winterlight", in January 2000. The limited edition release was awarded Single of the Week in a number of music publications, gained airplay on Radio 1 as Mark and Lard's record of the week and sold out within a fortnight, making the UK Top 100. Britpop
Britpop was a mid-1990s British-based music culture movement that emphasised Britishness. It produced brighter, catchier alternative rock, partly in reaction to the popularity of the darker lyrical themes of the US-led grunge music and to the UK's own shoegaze music scene. All About Eve was an English rock band. The initial creative core consisted of Coventry-born Julianne Regan (vocals), Huddersfield-born Tim Bricheno (guitar) and Andy Cousin (bass guitar), with other members changing over the years.
