David Brazil (politician)
David J. Brazil ( ; born September 20, 1963) is a Canadian politician from Newfoundland and Labrador. He has represented the district of Conception Bay East - Bell Island in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly since 2010. He is currently interim Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador and interim Leader of the Opposition. Brazil previously served as Opposition Leader in 2018 between the resignation of Paul Davis and the election of Ches Crosbie as MHA. Bill Rowe
William Neil Rowe, (born June 4, 1942) is a former politician, lawyer, broadcaster, and writer in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Rowe was born in Grand Bank and is the son of the late Liberal Senator Frederick William Rowe and the late Edith Laura Butt. Rowe attended Memorial University of Newfoundland where he earned a Bachelor of Arts. He studied for a Bachelor of Law at the University of New Brunswick on a Sir James Hamet Dunn Scholarship, and went on to become a Rhodes Scholar, graduating with an Honours M.A in Law from the University of Oxford. He entered politics and was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly five times as a Liberal MHA, first at the age of twenty-four. Gerry Reid
Gerry Reid (born June 18, 1954) was a Canadian politician and the leader of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. He served as interim leader from 2005 to 2006, until Jim Bennett replaced him in February 2006. Reid was reelected as leader of the party on May 29, 2006, after Bennett resigned due to differences with the Liberal Party caucus. Prior to entering politics, Reid was a teacher and town councillor in Summerford. Reid represented the district of The Isles of Notre Dame in the House of Assembly from 1996 until his 2007 defeat. On October 9, 2007, in the general election, he led the party to its worst showing in the province's history with just 3 out of 48 potential seats. Roger D. Grimes (born May 2, 1950) is a Canadian politician from Newfoundland and Labrador. Grimes was born and raised in the central Newfoundland town of Grand Falls-Windsor. Grimes is a former leader of the province's Liberal Party and was its eighth premier from February 2001 until November 2003. Daniel E. Williams (born August 4, 1949) is a Canadian politician, businessman, and lawyer who served as the ninth premier of Newfoundland and Labrador between November 6, 2003, and December 3, 2010. Ed Byrne (born 1963) was a Canadian politician, formerly a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly. He served as leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador and opposition leader from 1998 to 2001. When the Conservatives came to power in 2003, he was named Minister of Natural Resources and Government House Leader, being considered the second-most powerful politician in the province after Premier Danny Williams. Byrne was forced to step down from cabinet in 2006 after it was revealed that he and several other legislators had exceeded their constituency allowance claims, which led to a criminal investigation. Loyola Sullivan (born April 3, 1949) served as Canada's Ambassador for Fisheries Conservation from 2007 until 2011 and is a former Member of the House of Assembly in Newfoundland and Labrador. Lynn Verge
Lynn Verge is a Canadian lawyer and politician from Newfoundland and Labrador. She represented the Corner Brook electoral district of Humber East in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1979 to 1996. As of 2016, she serves as the executive director of Atwater Library and Computer Centre in Westmount, Quebec. Leonard Archibald (Len) Simms (born October 23, 1943) is a Canadian politician from Newfoundland and Labrador. He was the Progressive Conservative Member of the House of Assembly for Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans from 1979 to 1995. From 2005 until 2014, Simms was chairman and chief executive officer of the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation, a provincial crown corporation. Thomas "Tom" Gerald Rideout (born June 25, 1948) is a former Canadian politician who served as the fourth premier of Newfoundland from March 22, 1989 to May 5, 1989. Life and career Born in Fleur de Lys, Newfoundland, Rideout was first elected to the provincial House of Assembly in the 1975 general election as a Liberal but left the party in 1980 to join the Progressive Conservative government of Premier Brian Peckford in its fight with Ottawa for control of offshore mineral resources. Rideout became minister of culture, recreation and youth in 1984 and became minister of fisheries in 1985. Roger Cyril Simmons, (born June 3, 1939) is a Canadian public policy consultant and former politician and diplomat. Simmons is originally from Newfoundland and Labrador, where he was a politician for many years. He was later based at the Vancouver, British Columbia office of the Gowlings law firm. The son of Willis Simmons and Ida Williams, he was born in Lewisporte, Newfoundland.
