Le Mari De La Reine
''Le mari de la reine'' is an opérette in three acts of 1889, with music by André Messager and a French language, French libretto by E Grenet-Dancourt and Octave Pradels.Wagstaff J. André Messager. In: ''The New Grove Dictionary of Opera.'' Macmillan, London and New York, 1997. It was first performed at the Bouffes-Parisiens on 18 December 1889, with a vocal score being published in the following year. Messager described it as "the best of my failures". Roles Synopsis Florestan, a young artist, has asked for the hand of Justine Patouillard. The Patouillards, who have a restaurant at 18 rue Rambuteau, have refused him flat. Rejected and disheartened, Florestan goes to seek his fortune in 'Kokistan', supposedly on a mission for Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire (other), Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire. André Charles Prosper Messager (; 30 December 1853 – 24 February 1929) was a French composer, organist, pianist and conductor. His compositions include eight ballets and thirty opéra comique, opéras comiques, opérettes and other stage works, among which his ballet ''Les Deux Pigeons (ballet), Les Deux Pigeons'' (1886) and opéra comique ''Véronique (operetta), Véronique'' (1898) have had lasting success; ''Les p'tites Michu, Les P'tites Michu'' (1897) and ''Monsieur Beaucaire (opera), Monsieur Beaucaire'' (1919) were also popular internationally. Octave Pradels (15 February 1842 – 30 April 1930) was a French poet, novelist, vaudevilliste and lyricist. Biography Octave Frederick Pradels published his first monologues, tales in verse and songs in 1883. Among his greatest successes were ''Ça commençait si gentiment'', ''La Chula'', ''Dans l'oasis'', ' (written in collaboration with ). His songs were created in particular by Kam-Hill, Anna Judic, Amiati (at the Eldorado) and Thérésa. A director of the Théâtre des Capucines, Octave Pradels was also president of the SACEM from 1895 to 1898. ''Les Annales du Théâtre et de la Musique'' ("The Annals of Theatre and Music") was an annual French periodical which covered French dramatic and lyric theatre for 42 years, from 1875 to 1916.
