Le Mat
The Le Mat Trophy ( sv, Le Mat-pokalen, "Le Mat Cup") is the trophy awarded to Swedish champions in ice hockey, which since 1976 has been the winners of the SHL playoffs. The Le Mat is the oldest trophy competed for by professional athletes in Sweden. The trophy was donated by the founding father of ice hockey in Sweden, Raoul Le Mat, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. in 1926. Frölunda HC
Frölunda Hockey Club, previously known as the Frölunda Indians, is a Swedish professional ice hockey club based in Gothenburg. They currently play in the highest Swedish league, the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), formerly the Elitserien, where they have played for most of the club's existence. They last played in the lower division, the Allsvenskan, in 1995. Frölunda have won the national championship title five times: in 1965, 2003, 2005, 2016 and 2019. The club was founded on 3 February 1938, as an ice hockey section in Västra Frölunda IF and became independent on 29 March 1984. Prior to the 1995/1996 season, the nickname Indians was adopted. Lars-Eric Lundvall
Lars-Eric Lundvall (3 April 1934 – 8 April 2020) was a Swedish professional ice hockey player and coach. Between 1956 and 1965 he played 195 international matches and scored 79 goals. During this period he won 5 world and 10 European championship medals, including world and European titles in 1957 and 1962; he also took part in the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Olympics and finished in fourth, fifth and second place, respectively. Domestically Lundvall won two Swedish titles: with Södertälje SK in 1956 and with Västra Frölunda IF in 1965. He was selected to the Swedish all-star team in 1959 and 1960. After retiring from competitions in 1968, Lundvall stayed as a coach with his last club Västra Frölunda IF. The Swedish ice hockey champions ( sv, Svenska mästare i ishockey) is a title awarded annually to the winning playoff team of the top-tier ice hockey league in Sweden, which currently is the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) since 1975. It was first awarded to IK Göta in 1922, the championship's inaugural year. The championship's present SHL format did not take into effect until the league was originally formed for the 1975–76 season under the name of Elitserien. A team who wins the Swedish Championship is awarded the Le Mat Trophy. Djurgårdens IF holds the most titles in history with 16 titles, but Färjestad BK, who's played all 45 seasons of the current top-tier league, is the most successful SHL team with ten championship titles. The Swedish Hockey League (officially SHL; sv, Svenska Hockeyligan) is a professional ice hockey league, and the highest division in the Swedish ice hockey system. The league currently consists of 14 teams. The league was founded in 1975, and while Swedish ice hockey champions have been crowned through various formats since 1922, the title and the Le Mat Trophy have been awarded to the winner of the SHL playoffs since the league's inaugural 1975–76 season. In the 2010–11 season, the SHL was the world's most evenly matched professional ice hockey league. During the 2011–12 season, the SHL was the most well attended ice hockey league in Europe, averaging 6,385 spectators per game, however in 2013–14, the SHL was third best in Europe, with an attendance average of 5,978. Raoul Le Mat
Raoul Le Mat (September 3, 1875 – February 15, 1947) was an American film director and ice hockey coach, most famous for introducing ice hockey in Sweden during the early 1920s. Together with Ernest Viberg and Thomas Cahill, Le Mat introduced ice hockey in Sweden, and coached the Swedish national team in their first international tournament at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium. He was also the founding member of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association. When the first Swedish Championship in ice hockey was played in 1922, Le Mat refereed the final game. The Swedish Ice Hockey Championship ( sv, Svenska mästerskapet i ishockey; capitalised ''Swedish Championship'') is a former ice hockey in Sweden, Swedish ice hockey knockout tournament that was played every year between 1922 Swedish Ice Hockey Championship, 1922 and 1951 Swedish Ice Hockey Championship, 1951 and determined the List of Swedish ice hockey champions, Swedish ice hockey champions.
