LeFrak-Moelis Records
LeFrak-Moelis Records (or LMR for short) was a New York City-based record label founded by Samuel J. LeFrak of the LeFrak Organization and music industry veteran Herb Moelis. They had initial success in the late 1980s and early 1990s with Miami-based freestyle artist Stevie B. Other artists that LMR had in its roster included Maestro Fresh Wes, Daisy Dee and Jaya. Its successor, Saja Records, holds the rights to Jim Croce's ABC-Dunhill releases and Stevie B's recordings before he signed with Empire Musicwerks during the mid-2000s. Originally an independent label, LMR was later distributed by RCA Records. The label is currently distributed by Atlantic Records. A record label, or record company, is a brand or trademark of music recordings and music videos, or the company that owns it. Freestyle Music
Freestyle music, also called Latin freestyle or Latin hip-hop ''(sic)'' is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in the New York metropolitan area and Philadelphia, primarily among Hispanic Americans and Italian Americans in the 1980s. It experienced its greatest popularity from the late 1980s until the early 1990s. A common theme of freestyle lyricism originated as heartbreak in an urban environment typified by New York City. Stevie B (born Steven Bernard Hill, April 19, 1958) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer who was influential in the freestyle and Hi-NRG dance music scene of the late 1980s, mostly in Miami. Stevie B had a 1990 number-one hit ballad, "Because I Love You (The Postman Song)". Early life and career Stevie B was born as Steven Bernard Hill on April 19, 1958 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, He worked a variety of jobs – from car washing to fast food – before gaining recognition for his 1987 national club smash, "Party Your Body". Saja Records
Saja Records is a LeFrak-Moelis Records subsidiary. It formerly holds the rights to Jim Croce's ABC-Dunhill releases and currently the rights of Stevie B's recordings before he signed with Empire Musicwerks. It is distributed by Atlantic Records. In 2012, Saja relinquished the rights of Jim Croce's ABC-Dunhill discography to Disney Music Group of The Walt Disney Company; those albums will be re-issued by Hollywood Records except " I Got a Name", which will be re-released by Walt Disney Records because the title song of the album was featured in the soundtrack of the 2006 film "Invincible". Disney Music Group is currently sister of the American Broadcasting Company, the former parent of ABC-Dunhill, and is distributed by the label's successor company Universal Music Group (which owns Croce's Capitol Records discography outright). Jim Croce
James Joseph Croce (; January 10, 1943 – September 20, 1973) was an American folk and rock singer-songwriter. Between 1966 and 1973, he released five studio albums and numerous singles. During this period, Croce took a series of odd jobs to pay bills while he continued to write, record, and perform concerts. After he formed a partnership with songwriter and guitarist Maury Muehleisen, his fortunes turned in the early 1970s. His breakthrough came in 1972; his third album, ''You Don't Mess Around with Jim'', produced three charting singles, including "Time in a Bottle", which reached No. 1 after his death. The follow-up album, '' Life and Times'', included the song " Bad, Bad Leroy Brown", which was the only No. 1 hit he had during his lifetime. ABC Records was an American record label founded in New York City in 1955. It originated as the main popular music label operated by the Am-Par Record Corporation. Am-Par also created the Impulse! jazz label in 1960. It acquired many labels before ABC was sold to MCA Records in 1979.
