Lawrence Sampleton
Lawrence Mack Sampleton Jr. (born September 25, 1959) is an American former professional American football, football player who was a tight end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Philadelphia Eagles, from 1982 NFL season, 1982 to 1984 NFL season, 1984, and the Miami Dolphins in 1987 NFL season, 1987. He was selected by the Eagles in the second round of the 1982 NFL draft. He played college football for the Texas Longhorns football, Texas Longhorns. Sampleton currently serves on the board of directors of the Secondary School Admission Testing Board and Director of Admission and Financial Aid for the Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View A&M Foundation. Tight End
The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. Because of the hybrid nature of the position, the tight end's role in any given offense depends on the tactical preferences and philosophy of the head coach as well as overall team dynamic. In some systems, the tight end will merely act as a sixth offensive lineman, rarely going out for passes.
