Lawrence Lotito
Major Cav. Lawrence Edward Lotito OMRI, OSSI (May 10, 1921 - December 18, 2004) was an American business owner, meteorologist, and major in the United States Air Force. Early life and education Lotito grew up on a thirty-acre farm in Arvada, Colorado alongside his three siblings. He was born to first-generation Italian immigrant parents Rocco and Concetta Lotito. After graduating from Arvada High School in 1939, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics from the University of Colorado. Lotito then went on to earn a meteorology degree from University of California, Los Angeles. Military career During his military career, Lotito served six years of active duty in both World War II and the Korean War. In 1943 he was retained at UCLA as a metrology instructor. Order Of The Star Of Italian Solidarity
The Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity ( it, Stella della solidarietà italiana ) was founded as a national order by the first President of the Italian Republic, Enrico De Nicola, in 1947, to recognise civilian and military expatriates or foreigners who made an outstanding contribution to the reconstruction of Italy after World War II. In 2011, the order was reformed as the Order of the Star of Italy by the 11th President, Giorgio Napolitano. The emphasis of the reformed award was shifted from post-war reconstruction to the preservation and promotion of national prestige abroad, promoting friendly relations and co-operation with other countries and ties with Italy. Ruislip
Ruislip ( ) is an area in the London Borough of Hillingdon in West London, and in the historic county of Middlesex. Ruislip lies west-north-west of Charing Cross, London. The manor of Ruislip appears in the Domesday Book, and some of the earliest settlements still exist today, designated as local heritage sites. The parish church, St Martin's, dates back to the 13th century and remains in use. The buildings at the northern end of Ruislip High Street form the core of the original village square and are now Grade II listed. It originally featured a central water pump, but this was moved out of the road in the 1970s as a result of increased traffic. The expansion of the Metropolitan Railway from Harrow in the early 20th century acted as a catalyst for development in the area.
