Lawrence E. Gerosa
Lawrence Ettore Gerosa (August 10, 1894 Milan, Italy – June 24, 1972) was an Italian-American politician who served as New York City Comptroller from 1954 to 1961. A resident of the Riverdale section of the Bronx, Gerosa was a conservative Democrat who had been in the trucking industry before entering politics. After being jettisoned from the Democratic ticket in 1961 in favor of Abe Beame, he challenged incumbent mayor Robert F. Wagner, Jr. in 1961 as an Independent, proffering a fiscally conservative, law and order platform. He garnered 13% percent of the vote against Wagner and liberal Republican Louis Lefkowitz. The Gerosa campaign would articulate many of the themes which would be used again in 1969, when another conservative Italian-American Democrat Mario Procaccino challenged John V. Mario Procaccino
Mario Angelo Procaccino (September 5, 1912 – December 20, 1995) was an Italian-American lawyer, comptroller, and candidate for Mayor of New York City. Life and career Procaccino was born in Bisaccia, Italy. When he was nine years old, his family immigrated to the United States. He graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx in 1931. Despite family poverty, he attended City College of New York and Fordham Law School, becoming a lawyer later in the 1930s. In the early 1940s, Mayor Fiorello La Guardia heard him address a war-bond rally in Italian, and seeing how excited the crowd was, told him he should be in politics and arranged for an appointment to a $3,500-a-year post with the city's legal department. When La Guardia's administration ended, Procaccino became a party worker for Tammany Hall and was eventually given a minor judgeship. Abraham Beame
Abraham David Beame (March 20, 1906February 10, 2001) was the 104th mayor of New York City from 1974 to 1977. As mayor, he presided over the city during its fiscal crisis of the mid-1970s, when the city was almost forced to declare bankruptcy. Early life Beame was born Abraham David Birnbaum in London. His parents were Esther (née Goldfarb) and Philip Birnbaum, Jewish immigrants from Poland who fled Warsaw. Beame and his family left England when he was three months old. He was raised on New York City's Lower East Side. He graduated from P.S. 160 and the High School of Commerce before enrolling at the City College of New York's School of Business and Civic Administration (later spun off as Baruch College), where he received his undergraduate degree in business with honors in 1928. Lung cancer, also known as lung carcinoma (since about 98–99% of all lung cancers are carcinomas), is a malignant lung tumor characterized by uncontrolled cell growth in tissue (biology), tissues of the lung.
