Lawrence E. Cunningham (March 1, 1852 – 1924) was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate. Wisconsin Senate, District 22
The 22nd Senate District of Wisconsin is one of 33 districts in the Wisconsin State Senate. Located in southeast Wisconsin, the district comprises parts of eastern Kenosha and Racine counties, including most of the cities of Racine and Kenosha, and parts of the villages of Mount Pleasant and Somers, east of Wisconsin Highway 31. John Meek Whitehead
John Meek Whitehead (July 29, 1852 – August 31, 1924) was a politician in the state of Wisconsin. Biography Whitehead was born on July 29, 1852, to Jacob and Elizabeth Ann Whitehead near Hillsboro, Illinois. He married twice, first on July 12, 1881, to Lavinia Fletcher Barrows, who died in 1888, and second to Julet Claire Thorp on May 15, 1919. He died in Janesville, Wisconsin, on August 31, 1924. Beloit, Wisconsin
Beloit is a city in Rock County, Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 36,657 people. History Twelve men in Colebrook, New Hampshire, created the "New England Emigrating Company" in October 1836 and sent Horace White to find a suitable region of Wisconsin in which to settle. The level fields and the water power of Turtle Creek and "unlimited gravel" in the area around what is now Beloit fixed the site of the village and farms. White purchased the land. At the same time as the Colebrook settlers, six families from Bedford, New Hampshire, arrived and settled in the region. They said the Rock River Valley had a "New England look" that made them feel at home. The village was platted in 1838 and was planned with wide streets, building on the New England model. The Wisconsin Senate is the upper house of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Together with the larger Wisconsin State Assembly they constitute the legislative branch of the state of Wisconsin. The powers of the Wisconsin Senate are modeled after those of the U.S. Senate. The Wisconsin Constitution ties the size of the State Senate to that of the Assembly, by limiting its size to no less than 1/4, nor more than 1/3, of the size of the Assembly. Currently, Wisconsin is divided into 33 Senate Districts (1/3 of the current Assembly membership of 99) apportioned throughout the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 33 senators.
