Lawra District
Lawra Municipal District is one of the eleven districts in Upper West Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Lawra District in 1988; until the northern part of the district was later split off to create Nandom District on 28 June 2012; thus the remaining part has been remain as Lawra District, which it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on 15 March 2018 to become Lawra Municipal District. The municipality is located in the northwest part of Upper West Region and has Lawra as its capital town. Geography and climate Geography Lawra District lies in the North Western corner of the Upper West Region between Longitudes 2°25"W and 2°45"W and Latitudes 10°20"N and 11°00"N. People's National Party (Ghana)
The People's National Party (PNP) was the ruling party in Ghana during the Third Republic (1979-1981). All political parties in Ghana were disbanded following the January 1972 military coup led by Col. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong. When political activities resumed in 1979, there were five parties contesting the elections. The PNP claimed to represent the Nkrumah heritage. In elections held on 18 June 1979, PNP presidential candidate Hilla Limann won 35.3% of the vote and the party won 71 of 140 seats in the National Assembly. People's National Convention (Ghana)
The People's National Convention is a political party in Ghana. After constitutional rule was restored back in Ghana in 1992 the party was formed by former President Hilla Limann based on ideals from the People's National Party (Ghana) which he led in the 1979 elections and won. Electoral performance 1992 Elections The PNC has contested all national elections since the inception of the fourth republic apart from the 1992 parliamentary election, which was boycotted along with other opposition parties. 2004 Elections At the elections held on 7 December 2004, the party was part of the Grand Coalition, which won four out of 230 seats. Democratic People's Party (Ghana)
The Democratic People's Party is a Ghanaian political party formed in 1992 after the ban on political party activity was lifted by the Provisional National Defence Council government of Ghana. The party claims to follow the Nkrumahist tradition along with the People's National Convention (PNC), Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), National Reform Party (NRP) and the Convention People's Party (CPP). Progressive Alliance The party formed the "Progressive Alliance" with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Every Ghanaian Living Everywhere (EGLE) for the presidential election in December 1992. Their common presidential candidate was Jerry Rawlings of the NDC. This alliance continued through the 1996 elections with the party not fielding its own candidates. Bede Ziedeng
Bede Anwataazumo Ziedeng (born on Friday, 22 October 1954) popularly known as Bede Ziedeng is a Ghanaian politician. In 2008, Bede Ziedeng contested the Lawra-Nandom Parliamentary election on the ticket of the Democratic Freedom Party. He lost to Hon. Ambrose Dery of the New Patriotic Party. Ziedeng served as the General Secretary of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) in 2006. Early life Bede Ziedeng hails from Eremon-Lawra in the Upper West Region. He had his Ordinary and Advance level certificate in 1978. Bede Ziedeng earned LLB Hons in 1984 as well as Barrister at Law in 1986. Career Bede Ziedeng is a bank clerk for housing and construction. Democratic Freedom Party
The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) was a political party in Ghana. It was formed in 2006 and eventually merged with the National Democratic Congress in 2011. It came in fourth place in the Ghanaian general election of 2008 with 0.33% of the total vote. Formation The formation of the Democratic Freedom Party was announced in February, 2006 by Dr. Obed Asamoah, former chairman of the National Democratic Congress, as a viable third party alternative to the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party. This follows a split between a Rawlings faction and an Asamoah faction within the NDC. Ambrose Dery
Ambrose Dery (on 23 August 1956), a Ghanaian politician, is the Interior Minister and Member of Parliament for Nandom Constituency. He won the constituency during the 2016 elections on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. Biography Hon. Dery is a legal practitioner who entered the University of Ghana in 1977 after completing Navrongo Secondary School and graduated with a Bachelor of Law (LL. B) and then called to the Bar in 1982. Career Dery was the head and managing director of Dery & Co. Political career Before entering parliament in 2008, Hon. Dery was appointed Deputy Attorney General in 2003. 2008 Ghanaian Parliamentary Election
General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2008. Since no candidate received more than 50% of the votes, a run-off election was held on 28 December 2008 between the two candidates who received the most votes, Nana Akufo-Addo of the governing New Patriotic Party and John Atta Mills of the opposition National Democratic Congress. Mills was certified as the victor by a margin of less than one percent, winning the presidency on his third attempt. It is to date the closest election in Ghanaian history. Benjamin Kunbuor
Benjamin Bewa-Nyog Kumbuor was the Ghanaian Minister for Defence of the Ghanaian Ministry of Defence and a Ghanaian politician. He was the Member of Parliament for the Nandom constituency. Education His last name is also reported as Kunbuor. Kumbuor had his secondary education at Nandom Secondary School, acquired his LLB from the University of Ghana, and qualified as a lawyer after completing the Ghana School of Law. He thereafter proceeded to the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom and obtained his LLM with distinction. He was subsequently awarded the British Chevening Scholarship to complete his PhD in Law in Development (1997-2000).
