Lavon Heidemann
Lavon Lynn Heidemann (born October 24, 1958) is an American politician and farmer who served as the 39th lieutenant governor of Nebraska from February 13, 2013 to September 9, 2014 under Governor Dave Heineman. He is a member of the Republican Party. Biography Born in Pawnee City, Nebraska, Heidemann graduated from Elk Creek High School in 1977. He was a dairy farmer and member of the Elk Creek Public Schools Board of Education. He is also a member of the local fire district board and attends St. Peter's Lutheran Church. In 2004, Heidemann ran for a seat representing the 1st district in the Nebraska Legislature and won. In 2008, he ran unopposed, until his support for an increase in the gas tax prompted Jerry Joy to launch an ultimately unsuccessful write-in campaign. He served as chairman of the Appropriations Committee. In 2012, Heidemann ran for University of Nebraska regent in the 5th district, against Mike Jones. He won with a narrow lead. The 2014 Nebraska gubernatorial election took place on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 to elect the 40th Governor of Nebraska. Republican Candidate and former COO of TD Ameritrade Pete Ricketts defeated Democratic candidate and former Regent of the University of Nebraska Chuck Hassebrook, receiving 57.2% of the vote to Hassebrook's 39.2% This was the first open seat election, and the first time a Democrat won a county for governor since 1998. Republican primary Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy first declared his intention to run for Governor in July 2011. Considered to be the "hand-picked" successor to incumbent Governor Dave Heineman, he was endorsed by him. John Peter Ricketts (born August 19, 1964) is an American politician serving as the 40th governor of Nebraska since 2015. He is a member of the Republican Party. Ricketts is the son of Joe Ricketts, founder of TD Ameritrade. He is also, with other family members, a part owner of Major League Baseball's Chicago Cubs. David Eugene Heineman (born May 12, 1948) is an American politician who served as the 39th governor of Nebraska from 2005 to 2015.
