Laverton, Victoria
Laverton established in 1886, is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Hobsons Bay and Wyndham local government areas. Laverton recorded a population of 4,760 at the 2021 census. It was home to the RAAF Base (RAAF Williams), and covers 148 ha in the suburb of Laverton. Laverton was originally established to support the greater rate of flying and maintenance activities after the formation of the RAAF in 1921. Many homes in the surrounding area were colloquially called the “cabbage patch”, in reference to the boom of young families after the return of soldiers from WWII. Fences in the area also used to be low (below 1m) to originally form a shared community with no fence at the front. This style has recently been changed particularly on the main arterials throughout Laverton with higher fences being built in line with local council building policies. The town of Laverton is located at the western edge of the Great Victoria Desert, north-northeast of the state capital, Perth, and east-northeast of the town of Leonora, with an elevation of . About 20% of the population is of Aboriginal descent. The area is semi-arid, with a mean annual rainfall of . It is also quite warm, with mean daily maximum temperatures ranging from 17 °C (62 °F) in July to 36 °C (97 °F) in January. Laverton is the westernmost town on the Outback Waya proposed highway which goes through the Northern Territory to Winton in outback Queensland. The Shire of Laverton is a local government area in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, about northeast of the city of Kalgoorlie and about east-northeast of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of , and its seat of government is the town of Laverton. History The Mount Margaret Road District was gazetted on 17 August 1906. It absorbed the Municipality of Mount Morgans on 28 February 1913. On 13 November 1925, it absorbed some land from neighbouring road districts, most notably Lawlers. It was renamed the Laverton Road District on 20 January 1950. It was made a shire on 1 July 1961 following the passage of the ''Local Government Act 1960'', which reformed all remaining road districts into shires. Laverton, Gloucestershire
Laverton is a village in Tewkesbury Borough in Gloucestershire, England. It lies less than a mile south of the village of Buckland, and is in the civil parish of Buckland. The cluster of cottages and farmhouses are built of local Cotswold stone, the oldest dating back at least to the 17th century. A long distance path crosses the village. Community The village has a stone-built village hall, providing a 70-seat community building for the parish. The Winchcombe Way long-distance path runs through the village. To the east of the village is Laverton Hill, formerly an area of limestone quarries. This is part of a Cotswold escarpment that runs from Broadway to Winchcombe, and is part of the Cotswold Way National Trail.
