Laurie Taylor (sociologist)
Laurence John Taylor (born 1 August 1936) is an English sociologist and radio presenter, originally from Liverpool. Biography After attending Roman Catholic schools including St Mary's College, Crosby, Merseyside, then a direct grant grammar and now an independent school, Taylor trained as an actor at Rose Bruford College, Sidcup, associated with Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop in Stratford, London. He was also a teacher at the Forest Hill comprehensive school for boys. After earning degrees in sociology and psychology, as a mature student, at Birkbeck College and the University of Leicester, he joined the department of sociology at the University of York, becoming a professor at that institution. He is retired from York. Taylor is sometimes thought to be the model for Howard Kirk in Malcolm Bradbury's novel '' The History Man'' although Bradbury and Taylor had not met at the time the book was written. Laurie Taylor (12 October 1918 – 18 October 1980) was an Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL) for the Richmond Football Club and in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) for West Adelaide and Glenelg Football Clubs. Taylor was 6'2", an inch taller than fellow Richmond ruckman Jack Dyer and was a well-built centre-half forward, renowned for his strong marking. War service Taylor served with the 2nd AIF in Borneo during World War II. Shoulder dislocation On 17 May 1947, in the first match that Taylor played after his discharge from the A.I.F., Richmond was playing Hawthorn and Taylor was playing in the ruck. Rocky Taylor (born Laurie Taylor; 28 February 1945) is an English stuntman and actor. Career His first appearance as a stuntman was an uncredited role in '' Dr. No''. He has since been a stuntman for many famous and successful films including multiple James Bond and Indiana Jones films, '' A Bridge Too Far'', ''Titanic'', ''The Da Vinci Code'', ''Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1'' and the HBO television series ''Game of Thrones''. He has also had minor acting roles in 40 films, including doubling for Roger Moore and Sean Connery in James Bond films.
