Laurel Parmet is an American filmmaker. She made her directorial debut in 2023 with ''The Starling Girl'' starring Eliza Scanlen and Lewis Pullman. Early life and education Parmet grew up in Los Angeles, California, and attended Alexander Hamilton High School. Her father is Phil Parmet, a still photographer and cinematographer. Parmet attended New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Career In 2017, Parmet directed ''Spring'', a short film revolving around a young woman taking pictures of her best friend. It had its world premiere at South by Southwest. In 2018, Parmet directed ''Kira Burning'', a short film revolving around a teenager attempting to take revenge after a heartbreaking betrayal by her best friend. In 2023, Parmet made her directorial debut with ''The Starling Girl'' starring Eliza Scanlen and Lewis Pullman. Phil Parmet, (born March 7, 1942) is an American cinematographer and producer. He began his career as a cinematographer for documentary films. His first successes were '' The Song Remains The Same'' about Led Zeppelin, ''Baby Snakes'' about Frank Zappa, and the Academy Award-winning ''He Makes Me Feel Like Dancin''' featuring Kevin Kline. Bleecker Street is an independent American film company that specializes in film distribution. The company is based in New York City and named after 65 Bleecker Street, the street address of Andrew Karpen's prior company Focus Features. The Starling Girl
''The Starling Girl'' is a 2023 American drama film directed by Laurel Parmet. Plot Jem Starling is a 17-year-old girl raised in a fundamentalist Christian community in Kentucky who is trying to figure out her place in the world. South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and Convention (meeting), conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States.
