Laureate Na NÓg
Laureate na nÓg is a position awarded in Ireland once every two years to a distinguished writer or illustrator of children's books. It was set up by the Arts Council of Ireland in 2010. It is intended "to engage young people with high quality children's literature and to underline the importance of children's literature in our cultural and imaginative life". Siobhán Parkinson was the first Laureate. As of 2020, Áine Ní Ghlinn is the incumbent Laureate na nÓg. Children's Laureate
Children's Laureate, now known as the 'Waterstones Children's Laureate' is a prestigious position awarded in the United Kingdom once every two years to a "writer or illustrator of children's books to celebrate outstanding achievement in their field." The role promotes the importance of children’s literature, reading, creativity and storytelling while promoting the right of every child to enjoy a lifetime of books and stories. Each Laureate uses their tenure to focus on an aspect of children’s books – these have included poetry, storytelling, readers with disabilities and illustration. Sarah Crossan is an Irish author. She is best known for her books for young adults, including ''Apple and Rain'' and ''One'', for which she has won several awards. Eoin Colfer
Eoin Colfer (; born 14 May 1965) is an Irish author of children's books. He worked as a primary school teacher before he became a full-time writer. He is best known for being the author of the Artemis Fowl (series), ''Artemis Fowl'' series. In September 2008, Colfer was commissioned to write the sixth instalment of the ''Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'' series, titled ''And Another Thing... Niamh Sharkey
Niamh Sharkey is an author and illustrator of children’s picturebooks. Life Sharkey started out as freelance illustrator and designer in Dublin after graduating with a degree in visual communication from the Dublin College of Marketing and Design. She was living in Hobart, Tasmania when she illustrated her first full colour picture book. Since then she has gone on to be Laureate na nÓg in Ireland as well as win multiple awards including the Mother Goose Award, The Bisto Book of the Year and the Junior Book of the Year award at The Irish Book Awards. Children's Literature
Children's literature or juvenile literature includes stories, books, magazines, and poems that are created for children. Modern children's literature is classified in two different ways: genre or the intended age of the reader. Children's literature can be traced to traditional stories like fairy tales, that have only been identified as children's literature in the eighteenth century, and songs, part of a wider oral tradition, that adults shared with children before publishing existed.
