Laura Holgate
Laura S. H. Holgate is an American diplomat who has served as the United States ambassador to the United Nations International Organizations in Vienna since 2022 and previously from 2016 to 2017. She also served as United States ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency from 2016 to 2017. Education Holgate earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University and a Master of Arts in political science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Career Holgate began her career at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University. From 1995 through 1998, Holgate was special coordinator for cooperative threat reduction at the Department of Defense and, from 1998 to 2001, she directed the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fissile Materials Disposition from 1998 to 2001. Jane Wales
Jane Wales (born 1948) is an American non-profit executive and former US government official who has served on the boards of directors of and founded many institutions. She is the Vice President of the Aspen Institute, and was the CEO of the World Affairs Council (Northern California), World Affairs Council of Northern California for 20 years before resigning in 2019. Susan Koch
Susan Jane Koch (born January 24, 1943) is an American nuclear reduction expert. She has five medals from the Department of Defense, a Presidential Meritorious Executive Award and she was one of five people who were given inaugural Department of Defense Nunn-Lugar Trailblazer Awards in 2016. Life Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Koch gained a B.A. degree in 1964 at Mount Holyoke College before she took an M.A. degree in 1968 and doctorate in 1971 at Harvard University in Political Science. Koch first worked for the government at the Central Intelligence Agency where she looked at West European politics. In 1982 she took up senior positions in government which she held until 2007. Gloria Duffy
Gloria Charmian Duffy (born September 4, 1953) is a former U.S. Department of Defense official, businesswoman, social entrepreneur and nonprofit executive. Since 1996, she has been the president, CEO and a member of the Board of Governors of the Commonwealth Club of California, America's largest and oldest public forum, founded in 1903. Nunn–Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction
As the collapse of the Soviet Union appeared imminent, the United States and their NATO allies grew concerned of the risk of nuclear weapons held in the Republics of the Soviet Union, Soviet republics falling into enemy hands. The Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) program was initiated by the Nunn–Lugar Act (really the Soviet Nuclear Threat Reduction Act of 1991), which was authored and cosponsored by United States Senate, Sens. Sam Nunn (Democratic Party (United States), D-Georgia (U.S. state), GA) and Richard Lugar (Republican Party (United States), R-Indiana, IN). According to the CTR website, the purpose of the CTR Program was originally "to secure and dismantle weapons of mass destruction and their associated infrastructure in former Soviet Union states." The United States Ambassador to the United Nations International Organizations in Vienna is the diplomatic representative of the United States to those organizations of the United Nations Office in Vienna. Organizations include: the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, among others. The position is formally split into two permanent representative-level positions, titled the United States Permanent Representative to the Vienna Office of the United Nations and United States Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency, each of which requires a separate Senate confirmation.
