Laughing At Danger (1924 Film)
''Laughing at Danger'' is a 1924 American silent action film directed by James W. Horne and starring Richard Talmadge, Joseph W. Girard, and Eva Novak. Plot As described in a review in a film magazine, a love affair makes Alan Remington (Talmadge) dissatisfied with life. Trying to lift his son out of despondency, his father Cyrus (Girard) devises various means of excitement. Crooks seek to steal a death ray machine which the elder Remington is sponsoring and circumstance involves Alan in the subsequent excitement. Thinking it is only a trick of his father's, he takes danger lightly. The inventor Professor Leo Hollister (Harrington) and his daughter Carolyn (Novak) are captured and, with the machine, imprisoned in a hut on a lonely hill. Alan goes to the rescue. Naval vessels are warned that the desperadoes intend to blow them up with the death ray and turn their guns on the hut and destroy it. Alan leaps to safety in the nick of time. Lewis Montagna (born Luigi Montagna; May 16, 1887 – January 24, 1950), better known as Bull Montana, was an Italian-American professional wrestler, boxer and actor. Biography Born in Voghera, Italy, into a poor country family — and at a time when Italy was a predominantly rural country — with limited prospects, at 19 years old, Montagna made the decision to move to the United States. He arrived in New York in 1906 and continued to do heavy work there, first in Connecticut at a stone quarry and then in a Pennsylvania mine. Having also practiced Greco-Roman wrestling since childhood, after a few years he entered the professional wrestling circuit (better known at the time as "catch as catch can"), taking the name of Bull Montana as a pseudonym. Stanhope Nelson Wheatcroft (May 11, 1888 – February 13, 1966) was an American actor of the stage and screen who was primarily active during Hollywood's silent era. Biography Stanhope was born in New York City in 1888 to Nelson Wheatcroft and Adeline Stanhope. Both of his parents were renowned actors and drama teachers born in Europe. Stanhope attended Columbia University in New York City, and reportedly decided to embark upon a career as an actor after his father's death. Broadway plays in which Wheatcroft appeared included ''Marrying Money'' (1914), ''A Gentleman from Mississippi'' (1908), ''The Warrens of Virginia'' (1907), ''The Movers'' (1907), ''Zira'' (1905), and ''Nancy Stair'' (1905). After enjoying popularity during the silent era, his career waned in the 1930s, when his screen credits were primarily for his performances in bit parts.
