Lauderdale Yacht Club
Lauderdale Yacht Club is a private yacht club located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (United States). The club belongs to the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs. History LYC was established in June 1938. Racing LYC is one of the six founding members of the Southern Ocean Racing Conference (SORC), being the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, Miami Yacht Club, Coral Reef Yacht Club, Biscayne Bay Yacht Club and Nassau Yacht Club the other five. The SORC was founded in 1965 to expand offshore racing after the Southern Ocean Racing Conference had been created in 1940 with the 184-mile Miami-Nassau Race, the 284-mile St. Petersburg-Havana Race, the 30-mile triangular Lipton Cup Race off Miami Beach, and a 90-mile Havana to Key West Regatta. LYC and SORC runs five Regattas today, together with the Storm Trysail Club, the Fort Lauderdale to Key West Race. Fort Lauderdale () is a coastal city located in the U.S. state of Florida, north of Miami along the Atlantic Ocean. It is the county seat of and largest city in Broward County with a population of 182,760 at the 2020 census, making it the tenth largest city in Florida. Max Agnese
Maximiliano Agnese, known as Mac Agnese (born April 26, 1994, in Fort Lauderdale), is a world class sailor in the Melges 24, SL16, 29er and Snipe classes. He started sailing Optimist at age five, and won his first world championship by age 11 in the Melges 24 class. At the Youth Sailing World Championships, he won the bronze medal in the SL16 class in 2010 and the silver medal in the 29er class in 2011. In 2017 he crewed for Raúl Ríos winning the Snipe Worlds. He attended Fort Lauderdale High School before joining the Boston College sailing team, where he was the 2011-12 team captain. He was a member of the United States Team competing at the 2019 SailGP together with Rome Kirby, Riley Gibbs, Hans Henken and Dan Morris. Briana Provancha
Briana Provancha (born April 25, 1989) is an American sailor who competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Life Provancha was born in San Diego in 1989. At the age of eight she had begun sailing. She attended Point Loma High School and by the age of 16 she had been in several international competitions. She won the ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championship in 2010 with the Boston College sailing team, where she also sailed with Annie Haeger and they both graduated in 2012. Provancha's degree was in marketing. She and Haeger won their place at the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Palma de Mallorca which continued their dominance over the previous three years. Annie Haeger
Anne Haeger (born February 5, 1990) is an American sailor who competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics and joined the Canada SailGP Team as a Strategist in September 2023. Life Haeger was born in East Troy, Wisconsin in 1990. She started sailing when she was five and she went to Lake Forest High School. She joined as a sailing team with Briana Provancha. They both graduated from Boston College in Massachusetts together in 2012, where Haeger was named ICSA Women’s College Sailor of the Year in 2011. Annie was also named US Sailor of the Year in 2015. Anna Tunnicliffe Tobias (born October 17, 1982) is an American sailor and CrossFit competitor. In 2008 she won an Olympic gold medal in the Laser Radial single handed sailing class. In 2009 and 2011, she won the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Laser Radial. She also won the women's world championship of the snipe class in 2010, and placed second in 2008. She was named ICSA Women’s College Sailor of the Year in 2005, ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year in 2009 and 2011, and US Sailing’s Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year every year from 2008 to 2011. The Snipe is an American sailing dinghy that was designed by William F. Crosby as a one design racer and first built in 1931. The boat is a World Sailing recognized international class.
