''Laudakia'' is a genus of lizards, commonly known as Asian rock agamas, in the family Agamidae. The genus is found mostly in Asia, with some species in Southern Europe. ''Laudakia tuberculata'' (Kashmir rock agama or tuberculated agama) is a species of agamid lizard found in northern Pakistan, northern India (W Himalaya, Kashmir, Punjab), Nepal, eastern Afghanistan (needs confirmation), and western China (Tibetan Plateau). Serge Daan
Serge Daan (11 June 1940 – 9 February 2018) was a Dutch scientist, known for his significant contributions to the field of Chronobiology. Early life and education Serge Daan (Mook en Middelaar, Mook, 1940) was born in a wind mill, grew up in the Dutch countryside, and went to high school (Gymnasium β) in Deventer. The Daan family was highly interested in biology and undertook enterprises in this field, such as investigating the ecology of reptiles in the Mediterranean area. As a consequence of this interest, Serge studied biology at the University of Amsterdam. Academic career In September 1973, Serge received his Ph.D. in Amsterdam (cum laude) with a thesis on hibernation. William Thomas Blanford (7 October 183223 June 1905) was an English geologist and naturalist. He is best remembered as the editor of a major series on ''The Fauna of British India, Including Ceylon and Burma''. Biography Blanford was born in London to William Blanford and Elizabeth Simpson. His father owned a factory next to their house on Bouverie street, Whitefriars. He was educated in private schools in Brighton (until 1846) and Paris (1848). He joined his family business in carving and gilding and studied at the School of Design in Somerset House. Suffering from ill health, he spent two years in a business house at Civitavecchia owned by a friend of his father. His initial aim was to enter a mercantile career. ''Laudakia nupta'' is a species of lizard from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. It was described in 1843. There are two subspecies, ''Laudakia nupta nupta'' and ''Laudakia nupta fusca''. Taxonomy ''L. nupta'' was described by Filippo De Filippi in 1843. Its taxonomy has been moved many times, having previously been classified under the genera ''Agama'' and '' Stellio''. The current scientific name comes from the past participle of the Latin verb ''nūbo'', meaning to cover or veil. The meaning shifted over time, coming to mean a bride that covers herself for the groom. The bride's crown is a reference to the lizard's crown-like crest. ''Laudakia nupta nupta'' is commonly known as large-scaled agama or large-scaled rock agama, and ''Laudakia nupta fusca'' is commonly known as yellow-headed rock agama.
