Latino Buggerveil
Latino Buggerveil is an independent record label and publishing company that was founded by psychedelic noise-punk rock, punk band the Butthole Surfers. The label's first release was the 1987 in music, 1987 album ''A Texas Trip'', a various artists compilation which was co-released by Caroline Records (U.S.), Caroline Records. Following 1989's ''Double Live (Butthole Surfers album), Double Live'', a limited edition release documenting the band's 1988 tour, Latino Buggerveil became largely dormant as a record company and was instead used as the new name for the group's publishing company, which until that point was known as "Second Harvest." In 1999, the Butthole Surfers reactivated the label in order to reissue most of the group's 1980s catalogue, whose rights had reverted to the group following a lawsuit with Touch and Go Records. The band signed a distribution deal with Revolver USA, who had previously handled label imprints created by fellow noise rock bands Sonic Youth (Smells L ...

Independent Record Label
An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN). Many of the labels started as producers and distributors of specific genres of music, such as jazz music, or represent something new and non-mainstream, such as Elvis Presley in the early days. Indies release rock, soul, R&B, jazz, blues, gospel, reggae, hip hop, and world music. Music appearing on indie labels is often referred to as indie music, or more specifically by genre, such as indie hip-hop. Overview Independent record labels are small companies that produce and distribute records. They are not affiliated with or funded by the three major records labels. According to Sound ...

Piouhgd
''piouhgd'' is the fifth studio album by American alternative rock band Butthole Surfers, released in 1991 on Rough Trade Records. The album was reissued on Capitol Records in 1992, due to the album being out-of-print following the American branch of Rough Trade closing its doors the previous year. Capitol had bought the rights to the album after its initial release, in order to lure the Butthole Surfers away from other labels. The album was reissued yet again in October 2007 by Butthole Surfers' own label, Latino Buggerveil, and included the four songs from their 1989 EP ''Widowermaker'' as bonus tracks. Title confusion Rough Trade press releases stated that the album was pronounced "pee-owed" (as in "P.O.'ed", a euphemization of "pissed off") and that it meant "I told you" in the Navajo language. Bassist Jeff Pinkus stated that this explanation was fabricated by the label unbeknownst to the band, and that the album title was created with the intention of it being unpronounceab ...

Butthole Surfers/Live PCPPEP
''Butthole Surfers/Live PCPPEP'' is the third compilation album by American punk band Butthole Surfers, released in January 2003. All songs were written by Butthole Surfers. This compilation contains the entirety of the band's first studio EP, ''Butthole Surfers'', and its first live EP, ''Live PCPPEP'', neither of which had previously been available in CD format. The live songs were recorded at The Meridian in San Antonio, Texas on March 25, 1984. Both releases were originally published by Alternative Tentacles. Vinyl records of ''Butthole Surfers'' are still available from that label, under the name ''Brown Reason to Live''. The album also contains four bonus tracks (15-18). Two of them, "Gary Floyd" and "Matchstick," are live songs from the ''Live PCPPEP'' concert. The third bonus track, "Sinister Crayon," was previously only available on the double-LP version of the compilation '' Humpty Dumpty LSD''. "Something" is an early demo, which was also released on the comp ...

Hairway To Steven
''Hairway to Steven'' is the fourth full-length studio album by American experimental rock band Butthole Surfers, released in April 1988. All songs were written by Butthole Surfers, co-produced by Butthole Surfers and Ric Wallace, and mixed by Wallace. The album was recorded at January Sound Studio in Dallas. The album was originally released on Touch and Go, and was reissued on Latino Buggerveil in 1999. Some of its tracks make allusions to famous musicians, such as Julio Iglesias. Music The last full-length Butthole Surfers album of the 1980s marked a midway point in the band's career, straddling their psychedelic-noise roots and the more accessible recordings that would follow. Like Butthole Surfers' previous releases, ''Hairway to Steven'' uses nontraditional instrumentation, extensive tape editing, and sound modulation. Unlike its predecessors, which relied almost exclusively on a foundation of electric guitar, bass, and dual drummers, it makes equally heavy use of the ac ...

Locust Abortion Technician
''Locust Abortion Technician'' is the third full-length studio album by American rock band Butthole Surfers, released in March 1987. The album was originally released on both vinyl and CD on Touch and Go, and was remastered on CD on the band's label, Latino Buggerveil, in 1999. Background ''Locust Abortion Technician'' was the first Butthole Surfers album to not be recorded in a professional studio. After growing tired of living on the road, the band relocated to Winterville sometime in 1986, where they rented a small two-bedroom house, and used their meager savings to purchase an old Ampex 8-track tape machine and two microphones. Having set up a temporary home studio, the band set off to record what would become their third full-length LP. Despite the band downgrading from the equipment used on their previous record, guitarist Paul Leary believes that the inferior equipment forced the band to be more creative than they might otherwise have been. Additionally, the new studio ...

Cream Corn From The Socket Of Davis
''Cream Corn from the Socket of Davis'' is the second studio EP by American punk band Butthole Surfers, released in October 1985. All songs were written and produced by Butthole Surfers. The EP was originally released on Touch and Go. It was also included with CD editions of '' Rembrandt Pussyhorse'' in the U.S. and '' Psychic... Powerless... Another Man's Sac'' in the UK. ''Rembrandt Pussyhorse'' and ''Cream Corn...'' were again packaged as a single album when they were reissued on Latino Buggerveil in 1999. Music Highly eclectic, ''Cream Corn...'' finds Butthole Surfers exploring blues, industrial music, psychedelic rock, and country rock in the space of four songs. While guitarist Paul Leary has described ''Cream Corn...'' as an unfinished full-length album, lead vocalist Gibby Haynes has said it was conceived as a single with additional songs. It is unclear if Teresa Nervosa performed on all four songs, as she left the band for a short time in 1985. She has been confirme ...

Rembrandt Pussyhorse
''Rembrandt Pussyhorse'' is the second full-length studio album by American experimental rock band Butthole Surfers, released in April 1986. All songs were written and produced by Butthole Surfers, except "American Woman"—which was written by Randy Bachman, Burton Cummings, Jim Kale, and Garry Peterson of The Guess Who—and "Perry", which borrows the theme music to the ''Perry Mason'' TV show starring Raymond Burr. The album was originally released on Touch and Go, and was reissued on Latino Buggerveil in 1999. Both CD versions of the album include the 1985 ''Cream Corn from the Socket of Davis'' EP. Music ''Rembrandt Pussyhorse'' is arguably the most experimental release in Butthole Surfers' considerably experimental catalog. Making heavy use of in-studio tape editing and sound modulation, the album adds piano, organ, and violin, among other sounds, to Butthole Surfers' then-usual battery of electric guitar, bass, and dual drummers. According to guitarist Paul Leary and lead ...
