Regional Mexican Airplay (also referred to as Regional Mexican Songs) is a record chart published by ''Billboard'' magazine. It was established by the magazine on October 8, 1994, with "La Niña Fresa" by Banda Zeta being the first number-one song on the chart. The chart mainly focuses on musical styles originating from Mexico including Mariachi, Norteño, Banda and Duranguense as well as the Mexican American community in the United States such as Tejano. These genres are collectively referred to as " Regional Mexican" under the Latin music umbrella. This chart features only singles or tracks and like most ''Billboard'' charts, is based on airplay; the radio charts are compiled using information tracked by from Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems (BDS), which electronically monitors radio stations in more than 140 markets across the United States. The most common period covered by a chart is one week with the chart being printed or broadcast at the end of this time. Summary charts for years and decades are then calculated from their component weekly charts. Intocable ("Untouchable" in English) is an American band from Zapata, Texas that plays Regional Mexican music; specializing in Norteño and Tejano music. Los Tucanes De Tijuana (English: ''The Toucans of Tijuana'') are a Mexican norteño band led by Mario Quintero Lara. The band was founded in Tijuana, Baja California in 1987. Christian Jesus González Nodal (born January 11, 1999) is a Mexican musician, singer, and songwriter born and raised in Sonora, Mexico. "El circo" ("The circus") is a 1996 song written by Jesse Armenta and recorded by Mexican group Los Tigres del Norte. The song was included in the album "Unidos para Siempre" and topped the US Billboard Hot Latin Songs and Regional Mexican Airplay charts in 1996. Composition and lyrics "El circo" is a corrido and protest song written by Jesse Armenta, who had been working with Los Tigres del Norte for decades. The lyrics describe two brothers, "Carlos" and "Raúl" (in reference to Carlos Salinas de Gortari, president of Mexico from 1988 and 1994, and his brother Raúl Salinas de Gortari), who form a "circus" (a drug cartel) and get rid of the other "circuses" in the country.
