Latin Grammy Award For Best Pop Vocal Album, Male
The Latin Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Album was an honor presented annually at the Latin Grammy Awards from 2001 to 2011. The award was given to a male performer for albums containing at least 51% of new recordings of the pop genre. Since its inception, the award category has had several name changes. In 2000 it was presented as Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. The following year onwards the award is known as Best Male Pop Vocal Album. Spanish artists have won the award more times than any other nationality, though award-winning albums have also been performed by musicians originating from Argentina, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. The award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance was presented in 2000 to Mexican singer Luis Miguel for "Tu Mirada". Alejandro Lerner
Alejandro Federico Lerner (born June 8, 1957) is an Argentine musician and singer-songwriter. He has written and sung countless songs including several hits, and his fame and recognition spread all over South America. Through his career, Lerner played in different bands, formed his own group, and worked with international artists such as Luis Miguel, Paul Anka, and Celine Dion. The winners of the Second Annual Latin Grammy Awards were announced during a press conference on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at the Conga Room in Los Angeles, California. The conference, which was broadcast live on the internet, was hosted by Jimmy Smits and Paul Rodriguez. Alejandro Sanz was the big winner winning four awards including Album of the Year. Juanes won three awards including Best New Artist. Cancellation Prior to the date of the event, the Latin Grammys were moved from Miami to Los Angeles due to protests by Cuban exiles for allowing musicians living in Cuba to perform.
