Norteño (music)
''Norteño'' or ''Norteña'' (, ''northern''), also ''música norteña'', is a genre of Regional Mexican music. The music is most often based on duple and triple metre and its lyrics often deal with socially relevant topics, although there are also many norteño love songs. The accordion and the bajo sexto are traditional norteño's most characteristic instruments. Norteña music developed in the late 19th century, as a mixture between local Mexican music and Austrian-Czech-origin folk music. The genre is popular in both Mexico and the United States, especially among the Mexican and Mexican-American community, and it has become popular in other Spanish-speaking countries as far as Colombia and Chile. The winners of the Second Annual Latin Grammy Awards were announced during a press conference on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at the Conga Room in Los Angeles, California. The conference, which was broadcast live on the internet, was hosted by Jimmy Smits and Paul Rodriguez. Alejandro Sanz was the big winner winning four awards including Album of the Year. ''X'' (also titled ''X (Diez)'', "Ten" in English) is a double album by Regional Mexican band Intocable, released on February 15, 2005 through EMI Latin. Michael Salgado
Michael Salgado (born ''Miguel Salgado'' in april 5 1971 in Stanton, Texas, United States) is a Norteño/Tejano music singer/accordionist. Biography He was born in Texas, although his family roots are in Barrancos, Chihuahua, Mexico. Michael Salgado gained prominence in the mid-1990s by looking back to the 'norteño' sound influenced by Ramon Ayala, and by subsequently introducing the style to the younger generation. He positioned his backing musicians, brother Ernie and Uncle Jamie, to play guitar and drums respectively, with the bass player being his compadre, Joe Tanguma — at the age of only 19. He began climbing the Latin American music charts in 1995 after releasing his single "Cruz de Madera". Salgado's 1996 album "En Concierto" introduced his most successful single, "Sin Ella", which reached the top 20 of the Latin American music charts. His album "Mi Primer Amor" was released in 1997. Conjunto Primavera
Conjunto Primavera is a Mexican Norteño-Sax band from Ojinaga, Chihuahua. In the 1990s and 2000s they were one of the most popular acts in Regional Mexican music. History Conjunto Primavera was formed on the first day of spring in 1978 by the saxophonist Juan Dominguez. They remained a local act for several years, but starting in 1980, they signed with an indie label, Joey Records, in San Antonio, Texas. It was at Joey Records that Conjunto Primavera would not only record popular covers such as "La Sirenita", "Paloma Querida", and "Noches Eternas", but also subsequent fan favorites such as "Borracho Y Loco", "Cuatro Primaveras", and "10 Kilometros." However, the group was still far from popular. Juan Acuña
Juan Acuña Naya, (14 February 1923 – 30 August 2001) was a Spanish football goalkeeper who spent most of his playing career with Deportivo de La Coruña. Biography Born in A Coruña, he started his career with Sporting Coruñés. Naya then went on to play for Eureka before joining Deportivo de la Coruña in 1938 with whom he would play until 1955. He played his first game with Deportivo in Ferroll in 1938. The following year, he signed a new contract with Deportivo with a salary of 300 pesetas per month. He suffered many problems because of injuries and being overweight. He is the goalkeeper with second-most Zamora Trophies with four, behind Antoni Ramallets with five wins. Los Palominos
Los Palominos are a Tejano group from Uvalde, Texas. History Los Palominos were formed in 1986 by four brothers under the name Los Tremendos Pequeños. Their repertoire includes polka, ''rancheras'', ''boleros'', ballads, and ''cumbias''. They signed with Sony Discos in 1992 after meeting with Armando Lichtenberger and Oscar de la Rosa of La Mafia. Their 1994 release ''Corazon de Cristal'' was a hit in the United States and Mexico, and they have released a steady stream of hit records well into the 2000s. In 2000 the group changed to Fonovisa Records followed by a change to Urbana Records in 2003.
